Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Today kinda sucked! Found out, I don't really have a pair of anconas. I have a ancona drake, and a magpie hen! Urg! Anyone interested in these 2? I don't have interest in finding a magpie drake, and a ancona hen for them. And don't want to mix breed. I don't have room to be breeding magpies, and anconas. I love em both though!

So marty, is it possible I can just buy peacock eggs from you? Pprrreeeeertty please? If they lay in your yard that is! I don't think I will be keeping these 2. I would rather add some more runners.

Well, I have 5 turkeys pipped, but no poults yet. 2 are attempting to zip, but not going very fast. The one that was pipped this morning has zipped about half a centimeter. These guys are driving me nuts.

Hey Jazz! you sound busy. I just got back from a chicken swap and accidentally bought this...

Cute! I had a few slw hens. They were very pretty, but mean and ganged up on the other girls so they had to go. They laid huge eggs too.

so candled the chicken eggs again since its dark out now. i needed a better idea of what to expect.
so under the black hen. she has 10 eggs. 5 of them are internally pipped (so far), 1 almost has an ext pip (i can see the shell looking funny when the light is shined in it) so i will have babies tomarrow night!!!
under the red hen she has 6 eggs. 5 are int pipped or working on it. one looks like a no go (the air cell hasnt dropped)
i will be keeping a close eye on these guys all of them and if sunday morning any of them have not ext pipped yet they will be moved to the bator and helped .

ok so now for the pictures from today adventure (sorry there are a ton but i promise they are cute)
first the girls found the hayfield. the ducks are there to just cant see them bcuz they hay is soo tall

freeway decided it was a fun show. the girls completely ignored him

yang also enjoyed goose tv tonight

then the ducks learned how to get in the pool. they were proud of themselves

amelias first attempt to get in the pool.
it didnt end so well.
she got in got soo excited, she started zooming around and popped both herself and the brown duck clean outa the pool.
both were very confused. and got right back in

she loved the pool.
abagail never figured it out

Love the pics. They are getting so big.

Baby shower cake order

Nice cake. I love my big mixer. One giant batch of frosting, and then I'm good! Love that! Of course, it usually had a different cake flavor for every layor, so I seldom whip up 200 servings of the same cake flavor.

Its a beauty, and the human and bird babies are nice too!

Right!

I had that same thought. My friend told me they are mutt ducks and he doesn't know who bred who... but the eggs are HUGE. Although one is blue. I emailed him to see if he had a mallard though.

good night!... I mean... Good morning GQ!!

Good evening now!

for you some help cleaning brooders
lau.gif

Hooray for cleaning brooders.
roll.png
The 4/11 batch is completely presold, so I may have 48 hours with them... maybe.

Egg shopping is always fun, and I like gambling
hide.gif
so the shipped eggs don't bother me too much. I'm excited about starting my own breeding flock though, and knowing the mommy/daddy to my future babies.
celebrate.gif

I've gotten hooked on buying hatching eggs. This is from the girl who was terrified of shipped eggs initially.

my first hatch, 7 hatched, 2 were dead and 1 infertile, i guess 70% aint too bad

Not bad. My first hatch, I started with 14, 11 went to lockdown and got 8 babies one of which had a leg issue and didn't make it. That's a good hatch for a first timer!

Qj! You can come get the puppy when you want her! Shes ready! Just gotta feed her puppy food a few times a day instead of just once. Moms not nursing pups anymore. let me know when you can get down here, and we can work it out, and you can come see the farm and everything! Also, I think I have a uploaded pic of her..... Let me check!

Ooh, so exciting QJ! Six days to puppy love!

I have a baby!!! I have a baby!!!! The first one that pipped yesterday is out!!!!

My first duckling EVER!!!

One didn't make it through the night but the other two are hanging on.

I use homeopathic methods for healing, unless I need a vet, and then I always call him. That said, your horse may be at a place where a nice potato poltace may releave some discomforts by removing any lingering infected tissues. It seems like at this stage, it has some benefits. I use it for a number of instances (even w/poultry, plus dogs, goats, people....) when a wound is hard to heal, or seems rather inflamed still. It won't hurt anything, and may help out. If you want to, PM me. Or there are instructions on the thread "Mildred Ninja duck"

Hey Marty... I am doing a bumblefoot procedure on a rooster tomorrow. Does it matter how fresh the potatoes are? I'm going to try your poultice once most of the ick is out.

Turning 8 weeks next week I believe. I will check dates again. She hardly ever nurses them, and trust me, they know biting hurts

what about cows milk and the puppy?

Cows milk does nasty things to cats too.

Good morning all! I want your opinions about this little guy. He's my Ancona that was turned backwards in the egg and I hatched him from beginning to end. Have any of you ever had a duckling with a bill squished sideways like this? I worry about him, because his breathing seems to be a little affected by his deformity. I can hear a wheezing/whistling noise as he breathes. He seems OK other than that, though. He is active and eats and drinks fine. He is the smallest of the bunch, but he doesn't act sickly. What do you think? Will his bill straighten out at all as he grows? My daughter named him Lucky and he is the sweetest little guy. We're going to be so sad if we end up losing him. He will be 2 weeks old this Sunday.

I think your duckie will adjust to the crooked beak and be able to eat just fine.

At 24 hours old:

At 5.5 weeks old:

update here SHRINK WRAP
he.gif
he.gif

was up until 2 am helping babies, got up at five to feed and water brooder babies and help babies more, left for work at 6:30 and got back around 2:30 and babies looked a little better.
one more pipped wrong end, one went nasty
sickbyc.gif
i have them in my small half bath now with the humidifier going and 4 containers of water in the bator and the humidity is still stuck at 65
he.gif

i hope the chickens work out ok! they are still running on dry hatch and their humidity is around 50
fl.gif

on better news i got my new mixer last night i will go get a quick pic now
ya.gif

Shrink wrap seems to be the newest hatching disease going around. Better than backwards pipping, but still not awesome.

Here are pics of lucky, two weeks old today - here with a 3 week old chick (mille fleur of little DDs)

Here is lucky and Julia

Awesome! To everything! Beatiful kids, beautiful cake, adorable birds.... and a surprise hatchling!

Oh, and that mixer is amazing! Wish I had a big enough kitchen for industrial equipment. Actually, my biggest dream in one of those restaurant style pull-down to close dishwashers that washes, rinses and sanitizes in 2 minutes.

Oh holy carp ! REALLY I did not see the pic but I think my roasting Guinea & rabbit on the barbie would have offended too! But my difference is I don't care. I eat meat big deal, I may eat a sebbie someday
lau.gif
& there nuttin you can do about it! We are having Rabbit for Easter dinner & my kids think its cool ! So oh well. Lucky I didn't see the post
lau.gif
Ya know your things your thing! But don't expect everyone to to have your beliefs/values WOOT WOOT

Mmmmm

I wouldn't eat a sebbie unless I was starving. Too expensive.

So my Besties what do you have cookin new in your bators, & Brooders ???

Sounds like you're going to have a lot of hatching going on.

I posted the full list the other day. Not going to re-type it. But I've got about 84 eggs in different stages now and 36 eggs coming to fill the void as soon as the 4/11 batch hatches.

7 Black Javas (not sure yet.. )
The new Silver Laced pair.
um....That's it for chickens.

Ducks:
Ancona Pair

BYC won't let me Multi Quote some things.. which is weird. And then it says I have 72 PM's.. Which I don't. lol.

It was telling me I had 5 messages earlier and I only had one.

I'd love them if I were closer.

Worked late tonight, so now that I'm all caught up, I'm going to go lock down my eggs!
wee.gif

I'm going to have to go in tomorrow to do a bumblefoot surgery on the farm's delaware rooster. I really want to sleep in just one morning, but that's never going to happen!
