He sounds really cool! I had a pair of convicts that would attack the siphon too. I only had that pair about a month. Least favorite Cichlid EVER.Kevin, he is my favorite! Very low maintenance. He is extremely aware of his surroundings outside of the tank. It's funny to watch him get all riled up when our german shepherd goes near the tank, but is ok with humans. However, he loves to attack the siphon when cleaning the tank, as messing with his gravel landscaping upsets him since that requires him to work to re-do it after done cleaning.
Jules, I cannot wait to set up a tank for an oscar ! MY FAVE fish, we have had a 100+ tank growing up with all kinds of cichlids, jewels, convicts etc. But I loved the oscar tank. I could go out & look for bugs, worms, moths, etc, & feed em! & yes they are so personable & friendly!Julie, I know what you mean about the oscars being friendly. Kevin, parrots are like oscars in the friendly factor and are nicer to me because you can keep 3-5 in a single tank. Oscars, on the other hand, prefer to be solo fish unless in a super large tank.
Love your fry tank, what a cute little nursery!Rescue Tank:

Lol, I threatened mine with eating them all them time. Especially when he learned to play dead and would go "belly up" and lay down on his side on the bottom of the tank and freak me out. It way his way of pouting when he hadn't got treats in awhile I think. I had convicts, dempseys, firemouths, red devils, and some of the african cichlids and although they were prettier, they just never had the personality of my oscars.Jules, I cannot wait to set up a tank for an oscar !
