Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

It looks like it wasn't quite ready. Don't touch that shell or bad things will happen. Very bad things.

Too late!!! I didn't touch it but when I went back in the bedroom the shell was laying there and all the duckies were in one big pile. It looks like the umbilical cord is FULL of poop. When it is scouting along there is poop coming out of it.

Really? Interesting. How are they doing?

Yeah, that little one has an awful lot of stuff left to absorb. Steel yourself for a sad outcome with that one, SM. But if the others have come off their shells and are moving about that's wonderful.

When they hatch they shouldn't have anything attached to the shell at all, just for reference, but it sounds like the majority of them didn't have much left to go anyway.

It's normal to have poop in the shell. They have a little pouch that they poop into while they're still in the shell.

She said it's out already. What do you think about all that was left in there. I'm just curious.

They seem to be doing fine. They are all curled up together. One sleeps on its tummy with its legs behind it. So cute.

That yellow one and one other have kinda big belly buttons. I know they should shrink. They are moving all over the place in there. But man do they stink.

It wasn't fully ready to hatch. All the stuff is blood, yolk and kind of its insides too. Hopefully all of it will absorb. Edit: I should have said blood vessels (rather then blood - the blood shoudl be absorbed).

SM, I'd remove the empty shells. See if you can manage to put down something clean for them to lie on. Normally a bit of grot is fine but with the exposed umbilical stuff I'd be a bit more concerned than usual about a clean surface.

Ok, good. That pic looked pretty full. Have you told your hubby about that talk we're going to have? It will go like this...

ME: "eh-hem, hubby. Ok, so SM will be keeping those fuzzy butts in the bator right there."
HUBBY: "Who's SM?"
ME: "Your wife. That's what we call her."
HUBBY: "Oh. ... ... Why do you call her that?"
ME: "It doesn't matter. She will be keeping those fuzzy butts right there."
HUBBY: "okay, I'm cool with that."

Yeah, I'm a little worried about it.

SM-We're talking about you in front of your back.

Hee hee - poor SM, sorry.

We all hope the little one will make it.... It sounds like the others are doing well, which is fantastic.
