so far I have gotten 1 Turkey, 1 Mandarin and scolded by another one that was trying to lay, 1 Barred rock, 7 Japs and a few big chickens mad that I was looking under them LOL I will check again in a few hours should get a few more today

Do you clean the eggs before setting them? When the fellow we got our goose egg from 5yrs ago told us not to clean the egg at all, I just put it under my duck with all the dirt on it, he hatched too. lol

Pet quality calls. I have one hen that started laying in July when she was 5 months old and has laid an average of 6 days a week since then. She's my best layer out of all the birds lol.

I wipe off dirt. If it's really dirty and muddy I won't set it, and usually won't eat it either. Chickens get it. Some people wash and set them and haven't noticed any differences in their hatch rate.

sounds like she is a great layer. wish my duck girls would do that..

I have rinsed mine off but no scrubbing. If they look start looking bad then either we've had tons of rain/melt or I'm late changing the bedding. Usually the first unless I've been sick or the temps are -0.

Celtic? Who's was it?

Morning all.

Marty Hope she gets better soon.

Paula, will know this weekend who laid it. Today is sub divide day here (wasn't doing it till next weekend but the geese had other ideas.) So should see another tomorrow from the same girl and know which it was. I checked the girls last night, all of the 2012 girls are almost to laying stage. All of the older girls are very much so showing signs of laying. My guess is one of the whites and one of two girls (Sassy or Dahlila).

We dont wash hatching eggs, but I do have a nail brush and tooth brush to dust off any heavy dirt.
