Pip means to make the first hole in the membrane or shell. More specifically, 'internal pip' means to make the very first hole in the inner membrane into the air cell. 'External pip' means to make the first hole in the shell. Both are caused by muscle contractions that are triggered automatically. The ducklings have a strong muscle at the back of their necks that contracts suddenly and jerks their head up to puncture the membrane and then later the shell.

Stillmecle - if you are really worried about that membrane near the nostrils then open the bator and carefully remove it. I see that your humidity is still sitting round 80. I'd have thought the bator would adjust and drop it but not to worry.
