Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I always pictured Australia behind us for some reason.

Perhaps culturally. But when it comes to time, we are ahead. The thing that makes the difference is the international date line. It runs down the Pacific ocean. Time 'starts' from there and moves west (with the sun). The line is like the time 'starting point' and after the line (on the west side) we get hit by the sun first, so we are ahead of you. Time (and the sun) hits your east coast before your west coast, so it is earlier in your east than it is in your west.

Since the Earth is a ball what is east and what is west is relative. If you stand in San Francisco you'd probably say that Philadelphia is to your east. But if you go round the long way it is to your east - that is, if you travel east or west, you will eventually get to Philadelphia from San Fran. It will just take longer if you go west to get there.

How do you tell if an egg has been frozen? This is Superjeff Cindy's hubby.

Hi Superjeff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you'd have to float test them after they've all been brought to room temp. The frozen ones would probably have broken membranes and sink, I've had frozen ones not cracked before.

actually good eggs stay on the bottom.
so do you mean they would float? like a rotten egg

Yep, lol. I get those confused, luckily for me I collect my eggs 4x a day.
I would just toss them or feed them back to the ducks though, and collect fresh eggs if she wants them for hatching. She won't have much luck with older possibly frozen ones.

That International Date Line always throws me for a look. I picture California behind me, and then you guys further behind me, and then China forward. Geography was never my strong point.

How is the house coming? We're gonna need some updated pics.

That's what I was just thinking, but maybe save a couple on the top and throw them in the bator?! 80 eggs?!? That's crazy!

I haven't done any more to it since the last lot of pics but I'll get a bit more done each day this week and then hopefully the final onslaught on Thursday (we have a public holiday then - it's Australia Day - on the date that the first white settlers arrived (mostly convicts).

You can think of China as more forward than you but we are pretty much below China. Most of Australia is actually closer to you than Shanghai is. Right now I am sitting more or less directly south from Tokyo.

I'm lost. (Nothing new, there!) I must have missed something.

Where did SM get 80 eggs from and how long has it been since the nests were last checked?

I get that many in less than a week, and they are all probably fertile, but I wouldn't hatch them all. I'd go "chicken broke".

Are these duck, goose, chicken, emu (no, she wouldn't do that, they eat sandwiches), dinosaur, space alien eggs?

Oh, by the way, HI Super Jeff, I'm craz e!

I just googled it. I never pictured you that close to Japan. Have you ever been there? Or China?
