Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

If the air cell is small, the humidity is too high and the ducklings may drown - be unable to get to the cell and breathe. You can mark it on the egg shell with a pencil to see that it changes every few days and gets bigger.

If you are trying to incubate duck eggs and don't have a copy of "Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks" by Dave Holderread, I'd highly recommend that book. He spells out exactly how to incubate your eggs in great detail. Either buy it or get a copy from the library. I am glad I bought it, I refer to it a lot still, after several years of raising ducks.

I am going to have to put the incubator in my bedroom closeet. I am having surgery on my big toe for the 3rd time on November 21 and I will be on crutches at least 4 weeks. Once surgey is done I won't be able to go up and down the steps. I have to figure out about my horse and goats too. So I figure if they are in my bedroom closet, I wil be able to turn them and keep an eye on the temp and humidity. And also watch for them when they are born. Since it will be in there will I have to adjust the temp again since. Thrre is no air movement? I do sleep with the fan on
Will that make a difference? I guess I better get ready for bed....tiref.

So when you bump humidity up at lockdown, it's because the air sack is already established and now the goal is the moisture for the lubrication/hatching part of things.. right? Or no.

Stillmecle, the only issue I see is with air quality. The incubator needs to be in a well ventilated place so that it can draw in enough fresh air and oxygen for the eggs. The developing ducklings are 'breathing' through the egg shell and need fresh air coming in through the incubator's vent holes.

Temp and humidity shouldn't be a problem though.

Yes you should move them cuz you'll want to look at them ALL the time. However, I wouldn't think the goat or horse would fit in there. Unless you have a walk in closet.

Quackers, I could always put them in those bags and suck all the air out of the bags and then they could fit under my bed. Lol hahahaha

Ii could put it on top of my hubbys dresser but it is beside the heat draft. My dresser is tall and I cany reach it but the cats jump on it from our headboard.
