Aren't your new baby chicks sizzles/silkies? You should have some very good fuzzy incubators by late spring. I got my 2 silkies and silkie/d'uccle in Nov last year, they have gone broody constantly since May.
I just wish they could hatch out my quail eggs, then I wouldn't even need an incubator since it seems between the 3 of them I always have at least one broody.
They are adorable. Do you plan on selling ducklings in the spring? I would love a pair of mallards once I've thinned out my chicken flock some.
That would be ideal. Right now I'm trying to "master" the duck hatching thing. It's harder than it looks! It might be easier just to sell duck hatching eggs!

Yes the chicks are a sizzle/silkie combo deal. I also have about 20 Cochins in there too. I wonder if a bannie could hatch out a duck egg. Hmmmm. Because they are hard to get to hatch!
I have this barred rock that my BIL gave me.. it doesn't lay, it just collects all the eggs and moves them into a pile and then leaves. It's odd. And I really want to catch her in the action.. But my BIL said that's what she does, and now all my eggs are suddenly being "gathered" into a pile.
Very weird. I think she wants to be a mommy.

They should be able to. I put duck eggs under my silkie, but they aren't fertile so no ducklings for me yet.

It's kind of embarassing to explain to people what my girls and duck/roosters are doing, while the boy duck just stands there oblivious to what's going on.
I need to start working on building them a privacy screen.
