It's just a big meal consisting of Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and cranberries. All other involved foods are optional.
It's a celebration of the pilgrims making it through the first winter in the new world (America). And the Indians teaching them how to plant and harvest foods successfully. At the end of the season they had a big feast to give thanks to God and their new found friends, the Indians.
Now we celebrate to remember what those people went through to achieve religious freedoms, and to reflect on the blessings that God has given us through the year as a family.
It's also kind of molded into a "Christmas Kick-Off" of sorts.

People who aren't really religious... I guess they just eat. LOL!!
