Ok, I have a problem. I put some duck and chicken eggs under my broody silkies awhile ago. The duck eggs were clear, and got tossed. I can't figure out what day I pit in my eggs. At least my broodies have the eggs so I don't have to worry about lockdown or anything, but I would like to know what day to look for babies, lol. Is there any way to tell around what day they are on by candling?

I hope so. I'm not sure I can take another disappointment. Every time that happens I feel like I killed my babies. I know that's dumb. but it's not disappointment like I wish I had more ducks, It's more like it's my responsibility to get them here since I put them in the bator. I know that is the dumbest thing in the world!!

But I don't feel like that with chickens. Just ducks. Can't explain it!

i think its cuz ducks you have more room to error

but keep your head up they will be fine.. and dont think as killing think it as they were to weak.
you have no control over their strangth

Oh, that would be great! I can tell by my post's the earliest I put them in was the 12th, and they were developed enough to see by candling on the 17th. SO I'm thinking I should have babies sometime this weekend. There's a leghorn, silkie, barred rock, and bantam cochin x delaware in there. The daddy's are either delware x bantam cochin or delware x la fleche. Can't wait to see what they look like. Too bad I'll be trying to sell them, along with a few older hens or pullets to make room for some more ducks. By the time these hatch I'm hoping my duck's eggs will be fertile, and I'm going to try some of them in the incubator again.

If your humidity has been especially high or low or the egg particularly thick or thin shelled then the air cell may not exactly match the correct size for the stage of the hatch, but you can still use the diagram as a rough guide.
