Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

CG- You have some adorable calls.
70- The pen is looking good. I'm jealous, wish it was nice enough here to start on mine.
QJ- How long you going to keep us in suspense?
I pulled out the 5 clear call eggs today, they still had no development. Also 2 more which had blood rings, so down to 15 now, and 2 of them are pretty iffy. The others look great though, and as long as I hatch at least half a dozen or so I'll be happy. I also took out the tufted eggs. I'm starting to get attached to my little african embryos who are dancing away in their eggs. Never thought I'd get attached to an egg, but whatever, lol. Think I might just keep them.

70- I do deep litter in my coop and enclosed run and it works pretty good. I also keep the ducks water clear on the other end of their yard though. I think it'd work ok in their pen as long as the water was kept on one of those wire base things though. Do you have chickens? If not, you'll have to stir up the bedding yourself. I just toss some scratch where I want it stirred and the chickens do most the work for me. I only change it all the way out in spring and fall, but I add new bedding whenever I think it needs it, usually about once a month.

Thanks, Julie, that is very helpful. I do have chickens but they are not in the duck pen. But I could put some wheat in there to encourage them to do digging duty. Good tip. I will have the water up one end away from the 'sleeping'/food area. I'm going to have it on a gravel base with wire mesh over the top of that. What do you use for the bedding? I have a kind of cultivator/hoe thing that I use to rake the sand in the other pens so I can use that to turn over the litter each day.

yes.
=)
thats all i have right now are calls.

I've always loved the calls but never considered them an option because people say they are good flyers. But then today I thought.. Wait.. I have Mallards. They fly too. What's the difference?

So tell me, are they "wild goose" type of flyers? Or are they "better than Rouen" flyers.

Ok Peeps... I was REALLY wanting to wait until the seller had contacted me that she recieved my payment.. but, paypal says it was sent, so I guess that is good enough..

I Got My Chocolate Gene!!!

As long as these eggs hatch. LOL!! If they don't then I just wasted some mo mo.
