Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

oh, wait, I think you were talking about your eggs being on 48 hour hatch duty. LOL

I thought you meant watching the kids would seem like 48 hours. I concur, it would seem that way to me!!

Oh, have SEBBIE eggs being shipped this weekend, and some Toulousse (Sp?) eggs too. Now, what am I going to do with up to 8 geese???

You read me right the first time. I was talking about the kids. LOL. I would have said no, but I was sort of tricked. Long story.

Chick #2 is out now. It's darker than the first. So cute. And long necks.

if you want some eggs julie let me know. and we can set something up .
i will soon have them coming out my ears. (they need a smiley for this)
i have 2 dozen right now with nothing to do with yet.
this weekend 11 will maybe go under a broody

I'll let you know in a week for sure. By then mine should be quacking pretty clear if they are girls, I'll know how the eggs in the incubator are doing, and I'll be within a few days of having room in the incubator, it's pretty full right now. I also managed to break all my broodies, so I don't have any extra room out there anymore..

Not really.

When I laid my turkeys down for lockdown, one was allready pipped! Shame I can't test my didgetal like I can the others.

So more turkeys soon? How long do they take from pip until hatch?

Marty, I'm ok... got duckies today, still watchin that goose egg... its taking forever

how hard is raising turkeys?

Julie -

turkeys take 28, like ducks, geese, and peafowl. I'm surprised one is pipped allready. I guess my didgital must be offf a degree. I'm allready running it 1/2 dewgree lower, since my last quail were 2 days early. I think I'll drop another whole degree if the turkeys are also a day or two early. (sigh)

Men and turkeys, thats easy. Thanksgiving and football (turkey and a favorite thing). positive associations. Except, my DH hates organized sports. (Thanks God!!!) but he loves too eat.

I just had the same thing happen. Went up to candle since they're due for lockdown tomorrow. First egg I candled had internally pipped already!

So I scramble to get them out of the turner and laid down nicely on a towel. The fifth one I get out of the turner is externally pipped! Whoa. What???

They aren't due until Saturday.

Might explain my wondering about the air cells. Some of them must have been older eggs!

Not hard, really. A little slow to start, so I toss in a quail or some folks toss in a baby chick with the new hatches, to show them the ropes (like how to eat, where to eat, and find water). Its pretty important that you NOT raise them w/and or near chickens and other poultry. They share some diesease, and it can kill youngsters. I use a 2 week old quail, since they are less likely to offer illness to the turkey babies. I also brood them only in cardboard boxes, so there is no chance of sharing diesease with a previous hatch. Much safer for them, in my opinion.

Yes, exactly. You got the expression just right!

What is the deal?? Not due till Saturday either. SInce my new bator isn't here (7 days later) I was forced to just up the humidity a bit in the bator, and pull out their turner, and lay them on a papertowel in their aisle. Glad there is one free aisle, at least. I've never had one hurt itself yet, but I get nervous w/babies around auto turners.
