Marty my hubby is the same... he'll eat anything that doesn't eat him first

the only sports he likes are hunting and fishing. But he does enjoy critters both raising them all the way to the dinner table.

I just had the same thing happen. Went up to candle since they're due for lockdown tomorrow. First egg I candled had internally pipped already!

So I scramble to get them out of the turner and laid down nicely on a towel. The fifth one I get out of the turner is externally pipped! Whoa. What???

They aren't due until Saturday.

Might explain my wondering about the air cells. Some of them must have been older eggs!

I guess I should remind everyone: they are runner duck eggs.

Oh and my Flippy chick and little white chickie are going to the broody tomorrow night. I feel good enough about Flippy being able to get around, so off they go!

Yes, exactly. You got the expression just right!

What is the deal?? Not due till Saturday either. SInce my new bator isn't here (7 days later) I was forced to just up the humidity a bit in the bator, and pull out their turner, and lay them on a papertowel in their aisle. Glad there is one free aisle, at least. I've never had one hurt itself yet, but I get nervous w/babies around auto turners.

I'm working on the last part of a staggered hatch here. The chicks were last weekend and predictably on time. I took some of the rails off the turner and used a piece of foam to seperate the chickie eggs from the turned. I was so worried they'd get stuck under the turner or something else terrible.

I'm kind of sad. I didn't get my last semi-leisurely candling in before panic mode. I'm worried about the one that pipped in the turner. Didn't see it making any more attempt to work its way out. Hope I didn't kill the little one I only had the humidity at 50%. It's about 78 now... will have to watch it. Got a bit antsy on bumping it up since I'm in early lockdown.

I'm so happy I won't be a first-time hatcher ever again. Lots of ups and downs!

mine sees freezer meat

and i like babies so.... i raise them then he cooks anything i let him have!

My hubby got our turkey last summer for thanksgiving. I though she was a bbw and would be 50lb by then and I'd have to kill her before she had a heart attack, so I was ok with it. She stopped growing though, so I asked hubbies friend he got her from about her and figured out she's a mw. She's my pet now, so she won't be dinner. Hubby's all talk, when I did meaties he hid inside until it was over with, so I'll let him say whatever he wants, but I know I'll be stuck with whatever animal he gets to "eat".

Julie -

turkeys take 28, like ducks, geese, and peafowl. I'm surprised one is pipped allready. I guess my didgital must be offf a degree. I'm allready running it 1/2 dewgree lower, since my last quail were 2 days early. I think I'll drop another whole degree if the turkeys are also a day or two early. (sigh)

Men and turkeys, thats easy. Thanksgiving and football (turkey and a favorite thing). positive associations. Except, my DH hates organized sports. (Thanks God!!!) but he loves too eat.

Lol. My hubby is just lonely being the only boy I think. 3 daughters and me and all, lol. His dog, my chickens, my ducks, my turkey, my rabbit, all girls, lol. He's the one that has to have a rooster and wants a tom, just for the male company I think.

Too funny! Mine can't dress a bird either! But he sure loves meat. I tease him and tell him until he helps dress, he doesn't get any of my birds. Ya gotta be worth, so man up! I say.

Same here. Mostly girl egg ducks, mostly girl every bird, since they are the layer. The new dog, though, the used one, he is a big BOY so now hubby has company. LOL!
Oh yeah, did I mention I have only daughters???

I had not seen that listing, QJ! That is the same seller that had listing last week for grey dewlap, and Pete did not like the birds. But these birds look a lot nicer than her greys. I will post link on my goose thread and see what he says. If he likes them, I'll buy them!!

Marty, thanks for the heads up on the goose thread. I hope Pete sees it and lets me know if they are worth buying. Have a great night!
