Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Hey all! Sorry I haven't gotten on much today and haven't posted fluffed up pics of all the babies. Been crisis after crisis here today and I'm feeling under the weather to top it off.

My little boy apparently knocked down his bedroom light fixture today and it hit him in the head. So I'm sick and shaking from lack of sleep, applying pressure to a cut on little guy's head. Hubs is having to look after the ducklings.

I know of one little boy who is lucky to be alive. Had that glass fixture broken in the slightest different manner the little booger would be spending the weekend in the hospital.

6 ducklings are doing well, the last two are a little slower to perk up. Of course, they are the ones that needed the most intervention to hatch, so it's expected. One is favoring a leg. Great. Now time for duckie physical therapy. And I need to let my buyer know if her ducklings are ready and right now I want to say "not quite."

I think I've identified the two welsh harlequin/runner crosses. Those and a dusky and a black are going to stay with me.

I started with 25 eggs...I have at least 4 that have quit. I am on day 26 or 27 now...It seems that I have 2 that have internally pipped, as the air cell has shifted quite a bit in the egg, and I can see movement when candled.

So, the panic now sets in, how long should I expect once they have internally pipped until I see some external pipping?

It is usual to have eggs ahead of schedule, or are all the other duds or just delayed?

Hey Quackers, glad your boy is ok!!

Hiya Marty, very cool of you to wait to set eggs. Hope they grow well for you!!

Hey SM... have you bought any toulouse eggs yet?

Anyone know if Celtic's hubby is ok??

Hi Marty, hi sm.
I am exhausted today for some reason. Need to clean while the kids are gone, or at least go hang around some adults for once, but no energy for anything.

It usually takes a good 24 hours between internal and external pipping. Be sure to have your humidity bumped up to 70-75%. Best of luck!!

24-48 hours from internal to external pip. Be patient, ducks take forever. Some being more ahead is normal. Mine are on day 21 and 2 are pushing at the membrane, the rest are looking like they should. Depending on your incubator there may be hot and cold spots that affect development.

I must be missing a lot of pages, my computer has been loading pages reallllly slow and I guess I've missed some.

Quakkers, glad it was nothing too serious. I hate when things like that happen, it's terrifying to think what could have happened instead.

What's wrong with celtics hubby, hope he's ok.

CG- Anything happening under the broody yet? My broody chicken was off her nest today, but I put her back in there and she settled right back down and has stayed there. I think someone kicked her out to try to lay in there.

DG- Any Bobby updates?

Iain- When do we get new pics of your goslings?

Thanks for the quick responses...

I am running a Little Giant (that had an auto-turner) but no fan/forced air. I also have no hygrometer. The water wells are full, and I have a soaked sponge sitting in there as well. Anything else I can do to improve humidity?

Should I leave the temp @ 99f?
