Dog People -

My poor new (used rescue dog) we got a week ago has split two nails on the same front foot, all the way to the bleeding quick. (Didn't realize they were so long) Anyway, what would you do??

Oh yeah, hes about 80-90 lbs.

Coat the nail generously with baking soda or baby powder to stop any bleeding. Then keep him calm and resting for a while to prevent it from bleeding again.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone!

Sounds like a lot of you are needing hugs today. Me too, it's my first day away from the new babies and I'm worried sick. Hubs snuck in and checked them late last night, what a sweetie! But Pocket still isn't on her feet right. Hubs didn't answer the phone when I called a minute ago, so I hope he's up playing with ducklings. Not much else he would be doing in this rain.

So everyone, gather in and join me for a virtual group hug.

In other news, I had 28 runner eggs and 2 goose eggs waiting for me at the farm this morning! It's going to be a full bator this time around with the BEI eggs when they arrive!

She threw a toy into it. Little brat.

I agree with Marty, I hate time change day.

Julie... did she laugh until she saw Mommy? (mine would have)

agree about the time change, It really doesn't matter... the day is still 24 hours long

Marty... hubby sugest getting the nails clipped as soon as you get the bleeding stopped (I'm sure you thought of that but he's a guy)

She thought she was pretty funny.

Marty- Try asking in the Kansas section. There's quite a few quail people who live over there, although I'm not sure how often they are on here.

Well its rainy, nasty, & blustery here in Washington today ~ (don't be too surprised) So its a homemade Chili kinda day! Makinf a 12 quart batch .... Mmm Anyone have any good serets to their homemade chili's?

Hi again all-

Jaz - I like mine 5 alarm hot. I like to add in deer and pork w/the beef. I also fry big pieces of chopped onion and garlic w/mine. Then, of course, about a handfull of ground habenaro (dry), but you might want to pass on that. (I only make 2 qts at a time) I love tomatoe. Lots of my organic canned tomatoe. And I add black beans and kidney beans both. I use all kinds of herb and spices, like pretty much everyone.

Just got back from the vets. Buddy had several split nails, just not all split to the quick yet. He was a bloody mess when they had them all trimmed back past the breaks, but I can tell it hurts less to walk now. He has to go back in a month, to be sure all the splits are gone. Poor boy. They only charged $8 though, it must be the cheapest vet visit ever!

MY SEB EGGS CAME IN TODAY!!!

I've got them resting, and I'll pop them in an hour before bed, so I can monitor themp changes in bator #1. (Got my best bator on the goose hatching job. Can you blame me? I hope I get some!

I've got turkey and goose eggs on the way to my house! I'm going to put in some duck eggs at the same time. Why not right?

And then my Sebbie eggs are shipping out on Wed.

8 bucks?! That rocks! I can't get outta the vet for under 50! Woo Hoo!

And yay for Sebbie eggs! And yes to the best bator on the job! I'm leaving my cabinet plugged in for mine.

I wish I had a cabinet bator. Mine do pretty good. They have a closet to themselves, and its set at 67 (stays bet. 66 and 68) so I don't get much temp variation, even with the hova and LG. (having fans in them helps)

No kidding about the vet, it usually is real expensive. I was very surprised when it was only $8 even. I can't even get a burger, fries, and shake for that! (or hatching eggs for that matter)
