Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I have two pekin/buff eggs to hatch next Tuesday. I am so nervous. They are our first eggs hatched on our farm. We are also hatching chickens tomorrow. Whew, I can hardly wait

Awesome! Be sure to check in here when you get nervous. We'll calm you down. LOL.

Morning! 7am here.

Ev - RED laced BLUE Wyandottes??? Can't wait to see pics. Wow. Never seen that colour before.

Cass, really sorry about your ducklings :( Think you said no sign of injury. Do you know if too much inbreeding is an issue? That can be associated with duckling deaths at about a week to 10 days old. But it seems crazy that both would die at exactly the same time without some kind of mishap being involved. Poor you :(

What did I miss about quail? Whos got lots of quail coming?

I need a better source for quail. I've only gotten 4 out of the last two hatches from purchase, and 0 from the last one.

It may be a while until my fertility is back up (only have one male to 9 hens) but when I get another fertile male I could ship you some eggs for free. They aren't Jumbos but they have a lot of pretty color. Worth a try?

Julie, supposedly there are lots of great quail breeders in KS and MO. We must be able to find ONE between us, so we could go pick up the eggs. They are so delicate, that few survive shipping.

The four I got, only one is true coturnix. The others appear to be tuxedos. Not what I was expecting.

Tuxedo is not a breed, but a color. They are probably pure coturnix just not the typical "brown or pharoah" color. I have several different colors of coturnix quail. Tux is one of my FAV colors

I know right? I wanted a & m's so I could get tuxedoes, but now I think I just want jumbo browns. I want a color I can tell the boys and girls apart with. I see all the time about people buying quail chicks from the feedstore, but I've never seen them there. I need to get up and go to the gardner auction tomorrow, but I'm scared of what else I might come home with.

Just found two dead babies out in the coop. They both hatched on the same day (March 9th). No blood, just looks like they laid down and died I guess? What could have happened??

Maybe they got sat on wrong and smashed? Is it cold enough if they wandered away from momma they could get chilled? I really don't know. Usually when I lose babies it's from them finding somewhere to drown themselves or they get stuck away from momma and freeze or get pecked by someone.

My Sebbie eggs just shipped! Woo Hoo. Only I forgot it's Friday, so they'll sit a day in the warehouse. :( Oh wells.
