Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Lets trade some eggs when your fertility is up. My newest babies (my avatar) will be laying in about 4 weeks. It looks like I've got 2 males, and 2 females. I"m putting them togather soon in breeding groups. Since you like tuexedos, we could just trade, equal eggs. That would be awesome, and i won't be ready again until after Easter anyway.

I've got 9 special fancy european button quail eggs in too. They are due in about 10 days. Hard to candle my quail, how do you do it? The non-jumbos are just so small!
It may be a while until my fertility is back up (only have one male to 9 hens) but when I get another fertile male I could ship you some eggs for free. They aren't Jumbos but they have a lot of pretty color. Worth a try?

Tuxedo is not a breed, but a color. They are probably pure coturnix just not the typical "brown or pharoah" color. I have several different colors of coturnix quail. Tux is one of my FAV colors

If you want some nice jumbo browns, Mobyquail, fatdaddy, and millebantam (from the quail forum) have some amazing tatanka lines. Largest coturnix out there that I know of. Browns and whites.
I know right? I wanted a & m's so I could get tuxedoes, but now I think I just want jumbo browns. I want a color I can tell the boys and girls apart with. I see all the time about people buying quail chicks from the feedstore, but I've never seen them there. I need to get up and go to the gardner auction tomorrow, but I'm scared of what else I might come home with.

Oh, my sister wants me to ask if anyone wants to buy some bob white quail eggs? She has a trio, should be laying very soon. Not sure if they will be fertile though... Shes selling them for $1 a egg. Let me know if any of you want some :)

Sounds good. My current batch of 26 eggs should be hatching around April 1st depending on how many are fertile. I will hopefully get 1 nice fertile male out of the batch. So another 6 weeks after that is when my fertility should be at its peak. Hopefully that isn't too long of a wait for you. I am trying for 2 tux males to my variety of females. This will give us browns, tuxs, and solids (whites, italian, reds, tibetan). Going for the most variety.

For candling I use this. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/598999/homemade-egg-candler-for-six-bucks-detailed-pics-inside

It works like a charm! I can generally even see veining. I am not really into the button quail. Not weather hardy enough for me so I haven't researched much about them.

Its my 6 year old that wants them. I should have no trouble meeting their less ususal needs. Especially since there won't be many, even if all 9 should decide to hatch.

I'm ok with mid May. That'll give me a chance to test our fertility first. Don't want to be shipper of bum eggs, even if they are free! My tuxes are black and white. One male is a jumbo brown corturnix, the others all black/whites.

Do you have to house the buttons inside?
