Morning all.
Dutch the swinging temps have been rough here for eggs from the calls too.
Woke up to some new EE and OE chicks this morning. Half the geese have internally pipped and half of those have externally pipped. The rest are pushing hard to get pipped internally. Ducklings are hatching all over, they should be done by this afternoon.
Hello. It has been a very very busy week for me. I went out and worked in the property where my horse and goat is. Did a lot of cleaning up from the winter out there. I also have been cleaning up around my house and the ducks house. Yesterday was hard on me.
I had to cull a beautiful runner baby because it had a heart prblem. I hate having to do that. Also yesterday, when I finally got to come in the house after working all day outside,. I went out to look at the baby chickens and ducks on my front porch, and I found Tut in a corner all curled up. Tut was my Blue Breda Polish chicken that was so cute and comical and who I planned on finally keeping something I hatched. Well somehow his neck got broke. He was still alive but you could tell it was broken. Sad day. I am now bidding on some more Breda eggs and I plan on winning them no matter what.
I think I have my phone fixed so you are going to be getting a lot of pics off and on today...... I have a lot to share. My BEIs hatched, my EEs hatched, some other ducks I hatched for a Guy I know hatched but Sebbie is still thinking about making its grand appearance.
Morning guys.![]()
My last 2 wonderful babies (wrong way ancona and SA) are doing great with the others. Speaking of naming babies... I need to find names for these special guys. I tell ya the SA is different than the rest in that it acts more like a baby gosling towards me than a baby duck. Is it that the SA is the youngest? Or that I hatched it out completely with a fair amount of skill? Or is it the breed? Holding that one makes my heart melt.
Today is day 28 for my goosies. My africans are shadowing in the aircell and my toulouse are pulsing the membranes. I expect the africans to start internally pipping later today, but at the rate the toulouse are going, it will be sometime tomorrow for them. I am guessing the africans are on schedule for a day 30 hatch, and the toulouse are looking like a day 31-32 hatch.
Wrong way:

I suspect that my Beaker has maybe started laying. Not sure. Someone has made a nest that I just noticed. It's amazing how I can miss 4 eggs in such a small space..but those mallards sure cover things up good.
Utah: Love the SA. It's just like mine was! I hope it's not.. confused.. like mine is.
DG: Where are you girl! I want to know how that baby is doing!
Well, little Oswald passed....... I'm kinda happy though, he peeped like he was in pain most o the night. Now I can relax, and wait for the rest to come.![]()
Aww, I'm sorry about the chick. I Have another pip I think!!! I'm not opening the bator to check though!! I Promise!.... But my bator is leaking water at the bottem I noticed!! Maybe thats why my humidity sucks so bad!
Sorry I just disappeared earlier. As I was typing my last post, my gelding got his foot in the barbed wire fence and tried to cut it off. I can't get the bleeding to stop so have the vet on his way![]()
Yeah, it does. So does anyone else have "holes" in the bottom of their bator?
Sorry, DG. I agree with QJ, it was a great learning experience for you. Oswald served a purpose... to teach you how to help the future babies better.
Dutch! OUCH!! If it makes ya feel better, last fall my horse was running to me from the back of his pasture, and midway to me, he put his foot through a metal drain pipe that was just under ground. He looked like a race horse that broke its front leg the way he went down at a full run. He tore his entire front right quarter off his front right hoof, leaving only one layer of fascia before coffin bone, as well as tearing the ligaments that attach at coronary band. He was in our medical paddock next to house for a month with almost daily vet visits for treatment. But he recovered 100%!! I'm thinking super positive thoughts about your boy. Please keep us updated!!!
DG, yes. A gelding is a castrated male horse.![]()
