Three ducks, TWO males. How bad is this going to be.

It won't be nearly as difficult to find a home for a Pekin as it is to find a safe home for an extra rooster.

Drakes make better pets for city folks because they are quiet. Also drakes rarely suffer from the hostility problems that some roosters become homeless over. If you advertise that the drake has been raised as a pet, is friendly and doesn't quack loudly, you can find a home for him.

Using "chicken math", I'd say the best solution is to keep both the males and add 5 more females to your flock. Maybe 7 more. Oh what the heck if you add 9 more, you will have an even dozen.. A dozen is a nice even number.

oh boy. I live on a quarter acre and have chickens, ducks, kids, cat, dogs....I have NO more space!

If you have the space... quarantine one of the males. This will NOT be taken lightly however.

Otherwise the more prudent approach will be re-homing of one of the males. Otherwise a whole lot of trouble will come your way.

I can only hope for such good luck!

I wouldn't count on "luck." The reality is that multiple drakes gang breeding a smaller hen can either drown or physically injure her. It is not at all uncommon. Sorry, but that is a reality.

yep. that is why I am searching hard and fast for another female or someone to take my male.
Do you think a 2 to 2 ratio would help matters much?

by the way...found someone to take my female for a while if nothing else presents itself as a solution!

FWIW, I would just cut my losses and rehome the girl. I see how much my one drake will mate my 3 females. It is not fair to her at all. I honestly think that if you care about her, you should do what will keep her safe. Then you can enjoy the boys. I just would not wait too long. It could be very unpleasant. JMO

I will be re-homing the female until we work something else out.
Can you tell me what 2 males will be like together? What will they do with all that testosterone and no female?

AnDrEw&Cole :

Dont worry some time the males will fight for her but theres always a winner you can look up a picture of what that breed would look like and trust me they can mate.. I saw a pekin and mallard ...

I'm sorry AnDrEw&Cole but I don't think you know what your talking about. And yes they can drown her and she doesn't choose to not mate with them, it's the males decision.

Good luck lilmama!
