After a friend convinced us to help him out, we total novices received a flock of 19 chickens and 2 ducks the day a big storm from a hurricane blew through, 2 and a half yrs ago. Now, after giving a third away, losing several to free-range disappearances, and the inevitable old age deaths, we are down to 6 girls who have surprised us by laying this Spring after a barren winter.
(One lonely duck remains after a horror show with raccoons who have been eradicated .)
We bit the bullet this Spring and got 8 babies of 4 breeds who are currently in the bathtub and doing well. Cuteness reigns!
