In your minds eye, what do you see? There is usually a long term commitment to get what you really want. I have finally gotten some of my breed to where I want them to be in type, not totally in color but the shape is pretty good to excellent. I recommend doing only one project at a time. Start off with half a dozen chickens and go from there. Most of us don't do well having multiple projects at a time, it just takes too much effort and if it doesn't turn out as quickly as we think it should we can become discouraged. Is the front rooster kinda what you're looking for in type, minus the low tail? Tails are not difficult to bring up, but much more difficult to get below horizontal. The picture shows a 9 year old black cock (in the back) being challenged by a blue-red crow wing cockerel. Nothing came of it as the cockerel still didn't have the courage to follow through. He is an excellent free range bird. Long legs, but not as long as your Malays, longer feathering. He was raised by a broody hen, she hatched 8 chicks and has raised all of them to this point which is right at eight months. In the next several weeks are going through and taking out the ones we don't need for breeding.I doing a new sketch of what I want my breed to look like. For some reason, I always struggle with chicken heads.
