Definitely not caused by barring then. I’m not sure of the genetics.
I find the brown legs interesting. I'll have to do some breeding, & see if it can be replicated.

She's an F2 from the Wheaten Crele Orpington project that I decided to discontinue.

it's epidermal Pheomelanin expression, its often found on RIR, the hens express it better than the males

as to what causes it? I would say a combination of genes, Wheaten, Sex linked gold, Colombian and Mahogany

Interesting, since none of my birds have RIR.

Just found out my Orpingtons carry a Recessive Diluter gene. Got some red offspring from back crossing the project birds to Buff Orpingtons.
 
Buff Orps do carry diluter
I know they carry Diluter, I said mine seem to be carrying a Recessive Diluter gene.

She's red.

I also have another red offspring from a back crossing, but her father is gold. The chick I'm talking about is one I'm gonna be using for this new project.
