Thinking I may pause(But Not Entirely, Possible Project Crosses in the Incubator)the project until next year since I'm going to have alot of chicks this year.

Well, the Malay eggs that were in the incubator hatched, & turned out to be pure Malays, so it's a good thing, but this just sets the project back abit.

Just got caught up on this thread. I love following along with these kinds of projects.

Your goals for this one are kind of similar to a project I have in mind for the future. A all around survival breed with a very distinctive look. A very different distinctive look though, and I'm aiming for particular cream eggs rather than green. But either way I love to see your thought process on this.

Out of curiosity, where did you get your Malays from? One of these days I need to get my hands on a few.

Got mine from a breeder in Ohio as hatching eggs. He sells chicks at a few weeks old too. He sells on Ebay every once in awhile.

I may have to pause the project this year, from the looks of it, but we'll see if I can squeeze in at least one crossing though. Been extra busy this year, got a bunch of chicks, some for me, & some for a friend.

The chicks I'm keeping are 3 Silkies, 3 Brassy Back OEGBs, 4 Red JungleFowl, 1 Standard Old English Gamefowl, & 3 Malays, 3 Laughing Chickens. So that's 14 for me.

My friend is getting 3 Silkies, 4 EEs, 1 Satin, 1 Silkie/CrackerFowl cross. So, 9 chicks for them.

The Silkies will be the first group to be moved out, & acclimate them to outside temperatures. Once large enough, the 3 I got for a friend will be going to their new home on 80 acres to free range.

I've got turkeys moving out on Tuesday, so I can divide our friends chicks into that brooder then, so there's no crowding as they grow.

Plus we're working on moving, so there's alot of stuff going on right now.

Understandable if you've got a lot going on. My life is a mess right now, so I can only plan and prepare for my project.

I haven't fully settled on a name just yet. I'm aiming for a very dinosaur-esque aesthetic, so I was thinking something like Gallus Raptors (GR) or something similar.

I'm also aiming for spurs on the hens, excellent survival instincts, broodiness, winter hardy (Wisconsin winters suck), and an adequate layer and plate bird. Something to survive an apocalypse with basically. Some of my choices are definitely more for aesthetic than practicality, but overall I want them to be pretty hardy and breed true, so I decided against head feathers pretty early on even though I like the look of them.

Yeah, very busy this year. Just moved some Silkies out into the small coop for acclimation before being introduced to the Bantam Coop. Not all birds in the coop are Bantams, the name just stuck.

If you're looking for Velociraptor like body, Oriental Game types would be best to go with.

Any particular color, or doesn't that matter much?

Definitely looking at some of the game breeds, mainly Asils and Malays. If I could find someone who sold modern or old English game that would be a tempting addition at some point in the future.

Color isn't super important, but I'm thinking some combination of red/black/white. Penciling or lacing on the feathers, and a kind of splotchy pattern perhaps.

It'll all depend on what I can manage once I get that far. My biggest challenge will be getting the tail down low like I want and keeping it low
