I definitely have to keep the blue egg gene in my flock, raising 3 EEs right now plus 2 laying Olive Eggers of Crested Legbar descent currently… now it will depend on roosters I get from either hatching eggs (Rhode Islands) or from expected order of Egyptian and Saipan. Unless one of the EEs turns out a boy. Then go from there… but crossing the D’Uccle boy with them might make some cute babies… lol but not very big eggs.

What are you trying to do with keeping the Blue Egg gene in your flock? A project, or just want the colored eggs?

I want to keep a few birds that lay blue/green eggs… I have not decided on what other characteristics I want them to have besides the beards and muffs… and it is a bit dependent on which chicks turn out male this year. I definitely want to be able to tell them from my RIR and RIW birds. So I have to wait to see… but I might go with feathered legs, beards, muffs, crests and definitely different feather colour. That is why suddenly the bantam D’Uccle might be a possibility… lol

This bird was genetically tested as male… he is a chick still.

Previous owner on BYC had all the shells of her chicks tested right after hatch. Science is awesome. We have a Porcelain girl friend for him as well.
I have heard of it, just haven't really needed to do it.

That's good.
