Thyroid Disease suffers

Oh... also forgot to say that I also follow the Blood Type Diet.

I had terrible GERD since I was a teen.

Literally, five days after starting the Type-A Diet, the GERD went away and has not returned. It's been about 18 months.

I tested my Avoids to see which ones were actually causing the GERD:

Beef
Tomatoes
Potatoes

My daughter was officially diagnosed with Hashimotos Thyroiditis at the end of September. She's only 15, and is very distressed.

I've been very distressed, too. I am over 40 and on no routine meds, although I know I have type II diabetes on the horizon (I exercise, try to be good). Now she has the threat of diabetes on top of the thyroid issues.

I find what you all are saying very interesting. She takes the synthroid but really doesn't seem any better. Her T levels have dropped, jumped and dropped again, though. Blood tests every 6 weeks. I am happy because we have a pediatric endocrinologist who I think quite highly of!! I just wish we could get her back to functioning at a heppier level.

So glad you have a peeds endo that you like! they are hard to find.

A lot of people with Hashi's take the suppression dosage of Armour to stop all that jumping around.

I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid, hypothyroidism 8 years ago after my first son was born. They said it was a pregnancy induced thyroid problem. I hate taking that pill everyday and had been feeling awful lately. Down the front of my throat I felt full and swollen. I just stopped taking the pill to experiment. I am going for bloodwork in a month and going to see if the numbers are OK. I also clear my throat constantly and cough constantly and I am not sick. I wonder if it is a thryoid issue. Also, someone else mentioned it being hereditary. Well, almost every woman in my family has it all the way up the generations as far as I know. I always have wondered if it is more prominant in woman. I have to go for a thryoid ultrasound next week. My doctor prescribed it but I am not sure why. Has anyone had the ultrasound?

Thyroid problems are more common in women - I think it's a hormone thing. Thyroid is the 'master' hormone for all the other hormones in the body.

Sounds like you have a goiter in your throat. The ultrasound should reveal it. It's no big deal - just like a pregnancy ultrasound. I had a radioactive iodine scan, and the scanning part was uncomfortable cause I was really dizzy.

When I was taking the fake thyroid drugs I choked on certain foods and liquids quite often, but that doesn't happen with Armour.

All my siblings (2 full sibs and 1 half-sib) have Thyroid diseases, as does my natural father.

My daughter had a thyroid ultrasound. Was very quick, easy & painless. I was right there, being that kind of mom

I had a ultra sound for my thyroid. I had a huge tumor on the left side. Doctor was amazed that I wasn't coughing or having trouble swallowing cuz the tumor had pushed everyting to the right. I'm on synthoid and really not feeling 100%. Doctors don't seem to listen to my complaints. He tells me I'm within the "range". I push myself to get things done.

She wants to monitor a few more blood tests before she'll tweak meds. She reduced the dosage since DD's levels were high for a change. Doc wants to wait until March, when she has results from 4-5 blood tests to compare before she will consider a different treatment. DD is early stages, since her thyroid is smooth. Usually there are nodules and roughness on the gland during Hashimoto's (per the doctor).

count me in for a hypothyroidism with goiter. i have been taking synthroid since i was 15, i am now 33. i agree on the generic, i was told ONLY name brand, do not switch. i just have my doc write DAW on the sheet each time to ensure Medco doesn't try to change. what kills me is, synthroid name brand is pretty cheap... like $15/mo even without insurance, so i'm not sure why a generic would be so much 'better' if it causes problems for so many. (i know.. it's because insurance carriers are all just out to save a buck.)

i had not heard of the blood type diet but i'm going to google it now!

if the weight came back, seems like something ain't right. (that's my official diagnosis...

). i'd go back to the doc, make them do the entire thyroid panel, not just TSH. some do T3 some do T4, some just do TSH.

best of luck to you. hope you start feeling yourself again!

The bouncing around is the thing I hate about Hashi's. It's so hard to keep blood levels even. I have 2 nodules but thank goodness they are cold!
