Tick Seasons Here Tell Me Your Worst Tick Probs With Pets

Chic Can ~ I would love to have the formula for your tick spray if it works well! We are being overcome by ticks where we live and are looking into getting chickens to hopefully help with the tick population. I would love to get guinea hens if I knew they wouldn't be too loud, but that doesn't sound likely. Our neighbors would probably kill us. My son and I both have Lyme disease (late chronic stage that's hard to treat), and now we suspect my daughter has it as well. The dog is constantly bringing them in on him. We treat him with Frontline, but that only kills ticks once they attach. I find dead ones all the time where he has been laying. I started spraying him with a natural repellent, so we'll see if that helps.

Absolutely!

OKay so you can get your essential oils here www.sfherb.com
(amount to use in recipe)
cedarwood (1 oz)
rosemary (1/2 oz)
lemon grass (1 oz)
lavender (1 oz)
tea tree (1/2 oz)
eucalyptus (1/2 oz)

www.amazon.com
ir

Citronella (1 oz)
Neem (1/2 oz)

In a 32 oz bottle mix essential oils
And fill the rest of the bottle with baby oil and 1 tsp plant based liquid dish soap.

Shake well. Then in spray bottle mix 1 part oils to 5 parts water. You have to shake a lot but it works great and is safe for everyone!

Here is something extra for your Lymes. I hope it helps and am praying or you.

Thank you, Chic CAN, for your "recipe" and for your prayers. We desperately need them! I feel like Lyme disease has destroyed my life, and I worry about my kids, especially since they say you never truly get rid of it and always have the possibility of it returning. Some days it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I just want us all to feel well again. I will check out the link you posted.

Ticks are BAD at my place this year - bad! bad! bad! I have found at least 25 on me in the past two weeks. Of those 25 or so about six of them have been stuck. Shoot, it has probably been more than 25 considering 1 DAY I got at least a dozen off me! I am sick of the little blood sucking vermin. I have a new chicken flock and I hope when I get to turn them out more it will help the problem. Guineas are looking really good to me!

I would get guineas too if it weren't for the noise I keep hearing about. I think our neighbors would kill us. The other alternative is for us to move, but that's so much easier said than done. Definitely be careful, so you don't end up like me and my family. We all have Lyme disease (except for my husband), and it's no fun at all :( Very expensive too! We are looking into getting chickens. I just wish I knew if certain breeds ate ticks more than others.

I am really sorry to hear about your family having such a time with Lyme Disease. I hope you are getting the best treatment there is, whatever that may be. I sure hope to never get it but we sure do have plenty of ticks! I try to get them off of me before they latch on but that doesn't seem possible all the time. I do not have any indoor pets. I can only imagine how big of a problem I would have this year if I did! What are the symptoms that you and your family have to deal with? Best of luck to you.

Lyme disease affects everyone differently, especially because there are so many different co-infections you can get along with the Lyme. Some of my symptoms were numbness in my arms and legs (would wake up at night and not be able to move), muscle weakness, crawling sensation under skin, neck pain, back pain, rapid heart beat, depression/anxiety (one of the biggest, overlooked symptoms from Lyme), muscle twitching, hair loss, weight loss, memory loss/brain fog, extreme fatigue, floaters in my eyes, and I'm sure plenty more symptoms that I can't think of right now! They did a brain scan thinking I had MS or ALS. My son's main symptom was facial paralysis (Bell's Palsy). After that it was memory loss and fatigue. My daughter has muscle twitching, mood disorders, aching joints and teeth, crawling sensation under skin, migraines, stomach issues, etc. Insurance doesn't cover our treatment because chronic Lyme disease supposedly doesn't exist! They would rather diagnose you with 50 different conditions, than to accept a diagnosis of Lyme. We've spent thousands already :( I do recall pulling several deer ticks off of them when they were younger, so that's probably when they got it. I sure hope you never get it, but if you start experiencing strange symptoms and all your tests come back negative, you should consider that it's Lyme.

I got my dog from a shelter 5 years ago, and just found out a few months ago that she has Lymes disease, which escalated to Lymes Nephritis. Ive never seen a tick on her, but she had to have had one at one point. The lymes had gone to her kidneys & is shutting them down. Be very careful with ticks, even though I use monthly flea & tick medication, either it wasnt enough or she had lymes before I got her. Im hoping if there are any ticks in the yard the chickens will take care of them now.
