If you can't afford ticket let judge know that as well. You never know unless you fight it.
You never know unless you ASK... fighting it would mean lying and saying you didn't do it...
Being a grown up, IMO, means taking responsibility for your actions... not fun sometimes, but you'll get a lot more respect from me (and others in theory) if you act like a grown up... if you want to be treated as one then act like one... be honest, about your infraction, what you've learned, what you can or cannot afford, etc.
If you are sincere, honest, and respectful of yourself, the officer and the court it's a great step.
But there's always the risk that just like you or me the judge might be having a bad day so be prepared for the worst. Find out what the worst is... the whole fine I presume... and if you go to court there's usually add'l court fees too... be prepared to pay, and happy if not.
