YAY! baby goats are sooo much fun!! make sure you have a kidding kit ready, i am always at every birth. prepare for the unexpected, like stuck kids, bottle babies, malpresentations.
we used to hand breed, but its so much easier to put the buck in with the doe for 30 days. that usually gets everyone bred. even though you dont know the exact date. this year i knew when each doe was bred, and took the buck out 23 days from the time the last do got covered.
we use puppy pads to put under the does bum as the goo is really sticky lol and it helps keep the babies cleaner till i can dry them.
many does will have a plug in each teat, so when the kid is born, milk 1-2 streams of colosrum out to make sure that the plug is out.
do you plan on disbudding?? best to do it when the kids are around a week or so old. sometimes the horn buds are hard to feel, there are times i have had to wait till they were 4 weeks old, or like my tiny kid , peanut, his head was sooo small, so i waited to disbud him till he was 3 months old...
this year we are disbudding our selves, usually we take them to the dairy and have someone do it for us.
good luck, and dont forget the pics!! lol
