I LOVE it! Hubby keeps laughing that we'll have a tiki-style coop, too, because I've kept saying that or a TARDIS coop would be fun (but that bright TARDIS blue might bother the neighbors, so...). What fun! It's very cute and festive.

Yeah, I left the dog hut open with just thatch, but thought the coop should be different. Plus, with a small hen house, they can still go out when we do get rain. It's a combo of 5/8 plywood and scrap 5/8 cedar fence pickets covered with tarred roofing paper. I used mostly scrap lumber on the project. The gable ends have 1/2" hardware cloth. The whole thing is sitting on top of a brick foundation with a dirt floor. Right now, something could dig down about 6 inches and get in. I'm considering pulling it all up and putting wire under the bricks and then filling back in 6 inches of dirt. I'm in a fairly urban area and have only seen skunks and cats. However, the last place I lived was near canyons and we had everything... ...Racoons, skunks, opossums, foxes, coyotes. With Mary Ann(dy) crowing in the am, I'm sure it's like putting up a neon sign for critters.
I am a frequent visitor to Big Lots, and here in North Texas, they are heavy into Tiki party decorations. At last, I can see a use for some of it. How fun! They also push Beach Party Decor, complete with Seagulls and Pelicans. Wonder how land-locked chickens would like some wooden statues of Odd Birds?
