Time for a gun...help me choose the right one?

You are the one who started the "bantering."

Go back and read what I wrote. I never said there was not proper terminology.

I said that many people use the words clip and magazine interchangeably. And you can look at that thread I posted a link to, and you will find that many people use both words interchangeably. It is common terminology.

You make a personal choice about what words you will use, and allow others, such as the starter of this thread, use the words he wants.

Getting back to dispatching varmints in a live trap, We just drop the whole trap in the water trough.
Silent but deadly. Sometimes they poop, but then you can drain and refill the tank.

I view a bullet to the noggin as being a much more humane way of getting things done. Ever had anyone hold you under water?

Do you call a pickup truck a car and a car a truck? Proper use of nomenclature IS a big deal.

I'm just as annoying when it comes to grammar, so we'll let it slide

There is also the Ruger Ranch Model .223 or Ruger Ranch 7.62 X 39. The cartridge is larger for larger predators and with a hot enough load and hollowpoint bullet, you may be able to take down a small boar. These are a bit pricier I (around $550). Check out Gunlist for used ones. Used to hold my FFL.

To the OP, I haven't read this entire thread but I'll give you my input. Apologies if I'm echoing whats already been posted. Get what you need now and forget about one rifle for trapped critters / deer / pigs / turkey...Much to wide a span. Chicken math is child's play when compared to gun math. Right now get yourself a decent 22 and LEARN TO SHOOT IT WELL. Don't get to hung up on the semi-auto idea either. It doesn't matter a ****** bit how many rounds you can get off in 5 seconds if you can't hit anything. A good bolt rifle will serve you just as well and probably better. Go to your local gun shops and look at Savage, Marlin, and CZ and see what you like and can afford. There's a lot of love on here for Ruger but I'm not one of them. To each his own.

A 22 is great, practice with it a lot and you got it made. I have a 22 rifle, 38 special, and a 12 Gage shot gun. Learning all three and trying to practice weekends . The 12 Gage are cheap, bullet wise, I get 50 for 6.00 22 bullets are real cheap, my 38 special is a lot more.
I have never owned a gun, but realized a while back things are not getting better in the world, I got mine for protection, 22 for fun practice and to take small critters out .

@JEFFROSS: There exists a Three Caliber GunSet for around $400 By the Time You get it Home - Everything but a Scope! One Action, so you only have to learn how to shoot basically One Gun. Interchangeable Barrels.

It is called the "Trifecta" it comes in a nice fitted case, and has a nice array of Calibers for the various models of the Gun. It is From ROSSI, not a First Line Gun Manufacturer, but Perfectly adequate for Your Family Use. It would be Perfect for training Your Boys that "Each Shot Must Count". It is easy to see that is "Open, thus Safe". I am surprised that all the EggSpurts that have posted have not told you of this solution to your needs. It will Work as a .22, AND as a Long-Range Hunting Rifle, AND as a Shotgun.

It is a Break-Action Single Shot. To change Calibers, you detach the .22 barrel, and attach the 12 Gauge Barrel. Or the .243, or .223 Barrel. They also have .44Mag Barrels.and More!

But every bit as effective as shooting. And JUST as humane because Im pretty sure he dont have time to get ready to hold his breath.

There is a Thompson Center which also has interchangeable barrels, There are so many choices ( Thats why I have a size able collection ) I am not a huge fan of ruger either but the 10-22 is a nice 22.

The 10-22 also has a decent aftermarket following so you can customize it to fit your liking, and they have some decent size Mag's for it.
