We have been getting our first eggs for about two and a half weeks now. We have 9 hens and we are sure that some have yet to lay. We started collecting eggs in the morning and that was going alright, but recently we are getting eggs at all times of the day. From between morning until late into the afternoon say around 5:00 pm. We have had day time temps from the low 90's up to 105. Is this normal for the girls to lay at all hours like this, or could it be due to the temp's?
We also got our first "soft egg" today.

Thanks for any enlightenment.

yeppers, they lay when ever! I have one that lays in the morning and one at night. We collect 2 times a day

Ours lay whenever they feel like it. Morning to night. We collect eggs three times a day because we are home to do it.

I have 3 grown hens that lay 2-3 eggs a day, somebody lays in the mornings, one early, somebody about 11;00 am and somebody about 4:00. They are sisters, and have been together since they were baby chickies. Soooo go figure.

So, I think laying is over by 5:00.

My birds lay at all different times too. The latest egg that was layed was around 8pm. Another BYC Member posted that one of his birds layed at around 9pm.

My girls pretty much cycle together. They start out all laying in the early morning and each day it gets a little later in the day before they start all over again in the morning.
