Arlee, I'm so sorry. Good to hear the plan went as planned. Big hugs. It is never, ever easy, especially young ones. I think the hardest part is actually deciding when it is the best thing to do for the bird. I hope it is longest time before you ever have to do that again.

I have raised love birds and parakeets in the past. I came across a simular situation, once. On advice from another breeder, I wrapped the parakeet firmly in toilet paper and a baggie to keep it imobile and then put it in the freezer. It is not such a bad death. It just goes to sleep. Other than that I have taken other animals to the vet, even a sick pet rat, for euthanization. That approach is not that expensive. You have to do what you can later live with.
