Time to go on the offensive...enough is enough.

I'm sorry, I think I'm misunderstanding you. Are you saying that my statement is likening myself to God? And who are you to say that I do or do not have the right to kill an animal that has the potential to destroy my flock?

Yes. Deciding what lives or dies without a good reason is likening yourself to God.

I am someone who respects ALL life, and also the law. As another poster pointed out, what you think is your "right" may actually be illegal.

I'm all for differing opinions. Throwing insults and telling someone their "rights" really doesn't sound like "let's agree to disagree", now does it?

"Throwing insults?" I apologize if anything I said has been insulting. That is not my goal.

But thats an erroneous statement. In my domain, on my property i am God and with the assistance of a Colt AR15 equipped with an illuminated tactical scope I routinely decide what lives and dies on my property.

That is a statement just dripping with ego and anger.

Agreed but there's nothing illegal with stinging that sucker with a well aimed pellet on the hindquarters from my slingshot.

You are incorrect. That absolutely IS illegal. Dogs have been found with pellets embedded in them, and it is a prosecutable offense.

Never had a rat kill a chicken i assume.

That's what you get for assuming. I lived for a time on a ranch as a hand last year whose entire flock of Silkies was being taken out by a rat infestation. We removed the few remaining birds and set the dogs to work. We flooded their tunnels that ran under the concrete floor of the barn, and the dogs would catch them when they'd emerge. It took all of a week or two to eliminate the problem. We returned the birds about a month later and periodically patrol with the dogs even now... but the problem has not resurfaced.

I'm not sure if you're insinuating that I don't respect life and law, but I do. I see no point in arguing that with someone who doesn't know otherwise.

I don't think I know what my rights are. I do know what they are. You, obviously, do not. Seems to me you're making a lot of assumptions here.

Which, I suppose, is your "right". ;)

Well said!!! simple secret, for ALL OF YOU. Rats and mice cannot stand mint oil, non toxic to our pets, smells good and removes rodents without killing them. I didn'd come up with this, rather we use this in Government to remove the problem, not leave stinking rodent bodies in the ventilation ducts! try it!!!!

just to say laws and rights all depend on where you live. what my be illegal for you might be legal for some one else.

i live in western Canada, my province is heavy in farming/agriculture. by law we as livestock producers and owners have the right to defend our livestock from ALL carnivores (besides swift fox there endangered here). heck it says a bee keeper can legally shoot a bear that is within 1 mile of there hives.

going on to dogs. if a free roaming dog here is chasing a deer it is legal to shoot it.

now i don't know the laws in other places but again as i said every state or province i know of has at-least some different laws.

So, going back to the original subject of my rat infestation...it looks as if the tide has turned - no longer are the bait blocks being taken away whole - tonight I saw evidence that they had been 'nibbled' on a couple of hours after re-baiting the runs...it suggests to me that the adults have now passed and that the juvenile rats are now going foraging and are not capable of carrying the bait blocks so are just feeding from them 'in situ'

The pace of the consumption of the bait has definitely dwindled which signals to me that the war is being won...

Meanwhile Mrs.Chicken continues to hang in there... I ordered her, tonight, some Tylosin Anitbiotic (soluble oral preparation) and some antibiotic wound dusting powder...

Still hoping she'll pull through...

You just poisoned your chickens possibly I would deworm them
After you kill all the rats a new crew of rats will move in

How did they poison their chickens? Why would they need to be dewormed? And the rats won’t return if the bait is out there and they don’t have renewed food sources...

I was wondering about those points, too...

I reckon if I did poison my chickens the last thing I would then want to do was worm them! Bit of a waste really...unless the wormer is also an antidote for the poison?

But my chickens haven't had any poison!!

Mmmm....

After you kill all the rats a new crew of rats will move in

Aye, right...you know, I wouldn't have thought on overgrown garden full of nests occupied with dead rat corpses rotting away would be snapped up by any new prospective rats looking for a new home....especially when the only food source around is poison bait.

Anyway -

Mrs. Chicken has picked right up. I'm still going to treat her with some antibiotic in her water for a few days and dust her now healing wounds with the antibiotic powder but it looks very much like she's going to make a full recovery. Why the Phuck we call her Mrs. Chicken I don't know....given that she's actually a bantam!
