I noticed today that one of my 3 week old chicks (I think they're a partridge rock based on some BYC feedback) has little black tips on their new comb. The comb has really only shown up in the last few days and the black is subtle.

I've read about how black combs are associated with typically bad things so I'm a bit worried but the chick seems otherwise healthy, albeit smaller and less feathering than the rest.

Not sure if this common among newly developing combs. I'm nearly certain it's not frostbite since the chicks are still under a heat lamp and the humidity is low. (I monitor humidity and temperature in the brooder.)

You don't have anything to worry about. That is either normal coloration happening, or perhaps a tiny nick. Combs bleed shockingly heavily even for teensy scratches, and the scabs will look like black dots. Sorry, I couldn't see too clearly the dots in your picture, but again, everything appears good to me at least!

Thanks. I figured as much but needed to hear it from someone else who has seen more baby chicks than me.
Trust me, I get it. The first time I had chicks and I saw one flop over to dust bath, I thought it was dying. You'll never stop being surprised and worried over your chickens.
