Tips on treating a Feather Follicle Cyst?

If it's an inflamed feather follicle, and we're taking your word for it since you haven't provided photos, you should be able to see a dark center that would be the ingrown pin feather. Disinfect and make a tiny incision across the ingrown feather. This should release it from its confinement and you can then encourage the pin feather to erupt like a jack-in-the-box.

Put on Blue-kote or Betadine or just spray with Vetericyn to finish. Watch to be sure it doesn't fester. If so, keep an antibacterial ointment on it until it heals.

There doesn't seem to be a pin feather, just a lump, with a couple scabs with a few feathers sticking out.

I'll get pictures tomorrow.

I can still treat it the same way though. I've dealt with ingrown pin feathers before.

I guess they can appear as I'm describing. Sometimes the pin feather isn't always visible apparently.

Go ahead and make the tiny incision. Squeeze at the base to release any pus and a pin feather if it's there. Flush well afterward with soapy water or saline wound wash. The apply topical wound ointment.

If you encounter a hard mass with blood in it, it could be a tumor.

Will Surgical Scissors work for an incision? I only have those.

Oh, I also suspect he may have worms. He's very skinny, & pale. He's still holding fat in his abdomen area though. What would the best wormer you'd recommend? @casportpony

He's not acting sick, or anything. He's been under abit of stress since being reintroduced to the flock. But he's regaining confidence.

Could it be an impacted/infected oil gland? That's on the back down by the rump, and would explain why there's no apparent trapped pin feather.

Safeguard dose is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for 5 days.

Valbazen dose is 0.08ml per pound of weight given orally once, then repeat in 10 days.

Nope, oil glad is fine. I checked that after I found the lump. The oil glad is located at the head of the tail. The lump in location midway between the rump, & back.

I don't have a chemical dewormer on hand, so I'll have to order some.

I'm gonna get the paste. So how do I measure out the paste for dosing? I know weight is a part of it. Like how much do I take from the tube?
