What I meant by do your research is find out what each breed's characteristics are before you go out and buy a purebred cat/dog/chicken/fox/two-headed whosamawhatsit. If you don't want a high energy cat don't get a bengal. If you don't want a high energy dog, don't get a terrier. All the people who went out and got dalmations after the movie came out and found out they didn't want a high strung dog ended up with a lot of dogs getting dumped.

Well, this was more than 20 years ago, so not a lot of research going on at that point. I fully realize what goes into aquiring an animal of any sort
