Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

I just candled all of them. Their air cells aren’t the size of the Day 14 drawing template thing, but they’re a good bit larger than they were a few days ago. So the low humidity is working. Will be leaving it low until Day 18 and go from there.

Gonna try my best to leave them alone for 4 days with the exception of moving them around the incubator to get different spots in the egg turner.

All chicks were moving (I couldn’t see through a couple olive eggs but I’m confident they’re good). It’s so exciting how you can see a beak now!! I was like woah! I wanted to take pictures but it was hard to hold a flashlight plus an egg not to mentioned trying to take a decent picture without dropping something so I’ll be happy with the memories in my brain.

Oh no. So if the veins are still moving that’s a good sign? Like floating. Or what do you mean they went to moosh?
So when I say moosh, the veins disappeared, but there was then a mooshy looking cloud inside the egg. I checked today because on inspecting the water in incubator I noticed a smell. It was only mild but thought I best check

Stinking up?? Oh no! Oh you mean because it’s hard to candle emu eggs? Uh oh.

I have experienced many stinky emu eggs over the last few months. But with 7 in the incubator, I can’t tell which one it is. Just took everyone out and sniffed, no clue. Unfortunately, will have to wait until it’s undeniable who’s stinky before drilling the holes. So my question would be... is that one stinky egg possibly harming any of the others while I wait to make sure I take out the right egg?

That smell is unmistakable once you get a good wiff of the rottenness :sick

Uh oh. While I was watching videos and reading about emu hatching I came across a warmth test where you leave it out for a period of time and if one side of the egg is warmer than the other you have a developing baby emu in the egg and if the whole egg cools then it has passed. Did you read about this too? I know they have to be far enough along for this to be effective. I'll see if I can find it.
