Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Ya, my regular boxes always makes it all dented up and busted , I won't even try eggs through the mail from anywhere to tx either.. good luck hope the best for you.

Thanks! I constantly pass now on any orders that aren’t within a state away. It’s not worth the heartbreak.

Day 20!! I have so much to do today. Like clean and get rid of stuff. So I know my day will fly, but since I have company coming I need the day to go by slow so I can have enough time to clean, but I so want tomorrow to get here!! Hopefully at least one hatches on day 21 if not all. I’ll go crazy if I have to wait til day 22+ for one to hatch.

Well the Ayam Cemai and Bantam Buff Cochin eggs are on hold because they nearly stopped laying due to broody hens, lol. SO today I'm picking up some BBS Marans eggs finally! Only half of what I wanted because her hens are also laying slowly, hoping she still has a dozen at least, I love her flock! I will also be picking up some more Silkie eggs from the same person I got them from last month! šŸ˜ My friend also contacted me last night to tell me she found a stash of some goose eggs that her geese were laying and she's going to give them to me to see if they're fertile! I won't get those for a few days but my incubators will finally be overflowing again!

Remind me why you're anticipating a late hatch? What incubator are you using?

Oh I’m not, I just kept reading in other threads how some chicks hatch later which I understand it’s due to having a low temp throughout incubation or something. I’m using a still air little giant (bought it around July or August of last year).

My 3 BCM eggs are officially in lockdown (its day 18), but I stopped turning them on day 16 and don’t plan on raising the humidity unless I see a pip. I’m kind of convinced only one is viable and we will see if it even hatches. Going to candle them again tonight and confirm if the 2 ā€œmaybesā€ are good or not.

My 22 Gypsy Hen Eggs will be on day 14 tomorrow and I look forward to candling those...I might just do it tonight. I really hope they look as good as they did on day 7.

This upcoming Sunday I plan on going to pick up 2 dozen eggs from someone an hour and a half away who has Ameraucanas from Paul Smith lines. I probably won’t have room to set them until the Gypsy Hen Eggs hatch on the 10th so they’d be an April 1st hatch if that ends up being the case.

The nesting instinct is REAL. Much like when I had my human babies, I try to hold off as much as possible on indulging my nesting til the last few days. Then I can throw myself into a whirlwind of productive energy to get me through the last wait. Tomorrow is D18 for my first batch . . . and then I can install a divider between the batches, and sterilize my brooder, and re-set up my mama brooder pad, and build a temporary indoor brooder for the first few days, and get anything that's missing.

So excited to see everyone's hatches coming along!
