I think I put Cochin, Delaware, and barred rock eggs in. Only issue is I don't know which roo mated with them. It'll be another surprise hatch for me

It's so hard to guess. Honestly I only understand chicken genetics maybe 1/4 of the time if I actually know the breed! Maybe someday I'll spend some time really digging into it. It's much more complicated than Mendel and his peas.Yeah, feather color is the only thing that reminds me of Marans in him, and he's so striking it's hard to notice much else. The woman I got him from had him in a huge pen with probably a hundred chickens in it (her husband has the worst case of chicken math I have ever seen! There were pens and coops everywhere
). There were olive eggers, Easter eggers, Icelandics, and more in the pen he was in.
Anybody have any thoughts on him? He really could just be a complete mutt. I love mutts, though ❤
I'm sorry to everyone who has had to put their chicks to restWe had to do one last hatch and it was rough... Here's a hug for everyone
Hoping my silver sebright has a turn around because I want to breed him with a few of these bantams when they're older. I can see a sebright silkie in my future![]()
Went back to RK, got two more goslings and four straight run chicks. Two egyptian fayoumi and two mystery blue chicks. One of the goslings dunked his head in the water and aspirated I believeFingers crossed that he pulls through. Just made a thread about it.
Eekkk if he doesn't make it... I just got gold sebrights. So still a chance to try itHope he does too! So curious what that mix will look like... Have some Sebright x Silkie bantam crosses popping out 3/14. You’ll get a sneak peek of the tiny fluffy cuteness!
They are all so pretty! I love mixes, partly because it can be so hard to tell what's going to happen! Chicken genetics certainly are complicated. It's so hard to guess. Here's a picture of my last remaining Black Copper Marans cross. She is 1/2 BCM, 1/4 Polish and 1/4 Ameraucana. No feathering but she does have slate colored legs. She lays large green eggs.

Her full brother. Same hatch. He did get some feathering on legs. Also slate colored legs. He had the oddest looking comb.

Last month I hatched out some eggs out of Ayam Cemani and Barnevelder roosters over a variety of hens. They were so cute! I've already thinned the numbers down a bit but here's 3 keepers.

I've had chicks come out and people don't believe the breeds. They swear that all the genetics don't line up, but I know what birds lay what... I know my chickens. Genetics I never have managed to figure out because in my world, anything can happen. They are all so pretty! I love mixes, partly because it can be so hard to tell what's going to happen!
