Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Here's baby. It broke out last night. It's sticky. I really don't want to risk chilling it by cleaning it up because he got this far. How long can I safely leave him sticky?

Quite a while. I let them rest as long as they want. If the goo is around the eyes I clean that off ASAP. Many times if you let them rest you’ll see it’s not that sticky at all.

if I lave them and it hardens too much, and I have to use water, I use warm water and put it back in the incubator to dry.

otherwise, once I bring the out I use my fingers or a little coconut oil to remove it.

I'm baaaaaack! Book-ending the March HAL here with my two Wyandottes that hatched Monday and now there are 6 Barnevelder eggs in the Brinsea as of today!

Because my 60th birthday is coming and my dear man is a dearie....we drove 2 hours to Cork to pick up the eggs in person because no more shipped eggs for me! I thought all of you were world class enablers until today when I met my drug dealer in person :lau:lau! You see not only did he provide me with the requested eggs but threw the instantly addicting lure right under my nose.....

...because the two new babies need company, right??? So 7 girls out in the yard, and 7 babies in the brooder, plus 6 potential babies in the incubator means the 6 X 8 coop and 8 X 16 run are now officially full....for now. :idunno

Just for fun....

Just had this with my BRLW, it hardened so I used warm water and my fingers to clean most of it. Then aart (thanks bunches) said a soft bristle tooth brush will help get the rest off. Worked great..

Hello everyone! Hope everyone has had a good weekend. I just drove a couple hours south to get 2 dozen Ameraucana eggs and am on my way home. I’m going to set them once my Gypsy Hen eggs hatch tomorrow/Tuesday.
Also...I got my first egg from my new Splash Ameraucana Hen yesterday. I cracked it open and it’s fertilized!!!! I’m so excited. Going to start saving her eggs and maybe I’ll have babies from my own chickens for the very first time soon!!!

I tapped a couple times and nothing 😔 I'm not giving up on it yet, it is only D21.

I'm kind of wondering if they drowned when the humidity spiked, but I'm not giving up hope.

Temporary spikes are rarely enough to build up moisture inside the air cell which is what causes drowning. It has to linger at the high humidity for a while to do that. Fingers crossed!
