Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

First, the good news:
I'd taken the top off the last rhodebar egg before bed last night and left it, assuming because it was upside down I'd have to help it out this morning. But it made its way out overnight! Seems to be a boy.

Also, the blue marans chick is looking better!

The problematic news is now that the first rhodebar female from this hatch (the one I intended to keep, and the only one in this clutch that had no problems hatching) seems to have sustained an injury. I left it and the opal legbar under a heat pad in a cardboard box in the care of my partners while I went to assist the last egg. When I came back they joked about how the cat had jumped in the box but the chicks were all accounted for. They were both there and alive, but I noticed a few minutes later that the rhodebar female no longer stands up straight. She just lays on her belly, almost like splay leg. I can't figure out exactly what the injury is. :hit

I'm so sorry! That's heartbreaking! :hugs It's possible that's she strained a little muscle but I would try a hobble first and if it doesn't work then I would try a chick sling temporarily for her so her legs don't stay in the splayed position while her injury heals. Do you see any swelling?

Lol! Her name isn't even Judy, I just can stop calling broody hens broody Judy whenever I see one 😂
Now you can sing my song to them 😂 I make songs up about most of our pets because I love music. Most songs on the radio I have changed the words to. My entire family does this 😂 it's actually pretty fun.

I don't think so. She seems ok, just not as upright as she was. I think I'm going to just treat it like splay leg and hope for the best. She's still very perky.
