Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Have you ever had geese?

I'm wondering if I should ask my husband. I mean I'm sick in the hospital, I think that means I should get them 😂 I have to do the duck fencing first because I'm separating them from the chickens because my pekin named pickles keeps trying to mate with my roosters and she drives him bonkers so I want to put them in their own area.

That's hilarious!! lol! No, I haven't kept them long term, I have only hatched them for others but I have visited those same goslings, that are now all grown up several times. My friend has a really large fenced in area with a pond, geese, ducks, turkeys, and chickens all live in there side by side but there are clearly "clicks" that they prefer to hang out with their own kind. There's enough space that they don't bother one another. She used to have emus too but I didn't know her back then so I didn't get to visit...there is an alpaca now though and 4 miniature horses.

And you either get good ducks or CRAZY ducks. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah my muscovy Coco is weird. She won't sleep in the coop. She sleeps on top of it every night. She also flies on the roof of the house. She's a chocolate muscovy and matches with the coop roof and the house roof.

My Pekins so far have been great. They aren't crazy. I got 3 at TSC and 2 were female 1 is a male so it worked out. I did get a jumbo Pekin and two regular ones. The jumbo is Pickles, she's loud clumsy and a doofus.

I hatched those ducks last year and they were so cool for like three weeks. I don’t know what happened but I moved them from their brooder and they lost their marbles. i ended up giving them all away at once to someone with a pond.

That's crazy! Mine a very sweet. Pickles was in rough shape when I brought her home from tractor supply. She had legs bent outward 90 degrees. I'm not sure what feed they were using or what not but whatever they were doing it didn't have niacin in it. I'm sure they were just giving her chick feed. She's insanely attached to me and makes me quack at her and if I don't she gets louder and louder until I can't stand it 😂

I tried to keep them for a while. But at 8 weeks I gave up. I think I had too many and they took their crazy cues from each other.

I’ve read they hate to be moved. So I finally got them chilled out again after moving from the brooder and then I moved them again and it was crazy time again. I’ve got too many birds and with getting the house in the market I keep moving things around more, so I had to let them go.

I’m going to hatch ducks again when we settle down. We are moving in a few weeks to a transition place until we sell our current place. I’ve got way too many animals and a toddler to show this place with us living here. This will be a crazy year.

Oh my! It does sound like it's going to be crazy! It's never easy when there are tons of animals involved in the move but I hope it goes as smoothly as can be hoped!
