Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

I incubated 3 white eggs that we keep finding in our coop. It's obviously one of our chickens, I just don't know which one. I'm not sure if it my polish, but if it is I'll be the happiest woman in the world. All 3 are fertile... If it's my golden lace polish, she's been mating with my silver sebright. I bet that'll be one awesome mix!

How long ago did she start laying?

I incubated a total of 23 eggs but none are rare breeds. The chickens who laid em are either 1 year old or 2 years old.

Is it bad if they get wet? Or is it because you don’t refrigerate and getting wet would mean you would have to refrigerate them?

Today is Day 6 for my incubated eggs. I checked a random white egg and it’s growing!! I didn’t really want to keep checking but it makes me happy to see progression.

Well I guess there's probably nothing wrong with them...I just can't help but think about the rain washing the bloom off and the porous shell absorbing coop funk, lol. I don't wash my eggs, if they're dirty they always get cooked for the chickens. It's habit I guess and I'm a bit of a germaphobe.

I would say a few months, I've just never found her eggs. I think she was laying them in the woods because she can fly over the fence.

Most of my chickens are under a year and they make gorgeous offspring. I've worked so hard to get the flock I have. Most are unique... Black Jersey giant cockerel, silver sebright rooster, Delaware Pullet, 2 red sex link hens (I'm not too fond of this hybrid), barred rock pullet, golden lace polish pullet, which Cochin pullet, black Cochin pullet, and there's a few more but they're mostly crosses.

Mixes are so fun! I have a frizzle rooster in my coop, so I can't wait to incubate some of the eggs my girls are laying! I should gave started there, but the allure of the other breeds won 😂 Plus it will just be easier when they are laying a dozen a day, I won't have to store any before incubation.

I had to keep my chickens in their coop&run for a few weeks to teach em to lay in their nesting boxes because I kept finding them all over the place and half the time they were bad by the time I found them. But now, as far as I know, they are all laying in their nesting boxes, even the new ones that don’t even sleep in that coop haha

I don't know what made me put these 3 eggs in, but I wanted polish eggs and I think I finally have them. I think she has been hiding them on me 😂 she's my stubborn chicken.

My ducks lay their eggs in a coop no one is even using. Birds are hilarious.
