Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

To be completely honest I don’t know. I would think they are or at least I will breed them with the idea that they are that way I don’t do it for x amount of generations. I will do more research before attempting of course. I got them back in March 2019 from TSC.

Thank you everyone for the input. I will go and finish the video to see if I get some insight

I am no pro so don’t quote me, but if I didn’t know how closely related the birds were, I probably wouldn’t back cross more than once. I may be inclined to not back cross at all, but I’m a worrier. For the birds I’m breeding I found completely unrelated hens and roosters so I can backcross once or twice without worrying. But I need to research more about line breeding myself so these are just my thoughts.

I've been trying to learn about breeding and genetics as I have a couple projects I'm interested in starting and it IS a bit overwhelming!

This one seemed like a good intro to starting with a trio:

I'm sure there are lots of good threads, too!

Thanks for posting this video. Very helpful. Maybe I’ll be able to back cross more than I thought.

My very hazy understanding is that chicken genetics are not quite like mammalian genetics, and they can generally tolerate more back crossing than mammals. But I am still very much learning and could be misunderstanding something 😬🤔.
