Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

What is everyone’s recommendation for brooder bedding? So much conflicting info! 😩

I use pine pellets from day one with all species other than quail, the quail start on puppy wee pads only. I actually put puppy wee pads under the pine pellets because it makes it super easy to roll up and clean.

Guineas are one of the species that will eat their bedding. My friend lost one to eating pine shavings so I wouldn't do that. Another person that I did a hatch-a-long with used wee pads under her guineas for a couple weeks I think before she had issues with them trying to eat it. The pine pellets break down into such tiny particles that I don't worry about compaction but I haven't hatched guineas yet to try it.

Oh right! Those hospital pads! I think I still have a few floating around from the last time I gave birth haha. Thanks for reminding me, definitely gonna put them in my neonatal temporary brooder.

We have an external pip! Now more waiting... That's the part I don't like 😂

Any guesses on what color they'll be?

I know that when my friend bred her Polish, Buff Laced over Golden Laced and Splash, she never got a single Golden Laced Polish, all of them were Splash and Buff Laced. I'm not sure which would be dominant with Silver Laced and Gold Laced but I would guess Silver Laced and it will definitely be a tiny chicken if your Silver Sebright is the roo and not Squach!
