Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Oh wow! I actually checked this guy out over cedarhills marans because i heard some issues about their boxing, and this guy was like "I package them like I'd like them to be packaged for me." Well, I'm back to my initial skepticism about ebay.

I know! What the heck, right?! I figured I’d ask how he boxed just to be safe and I’m glad he was honest, because now I know to steer clear.

Redoing my garage right now, laid down a massive open-top wooden box for the brooder. I already had one set up but it would’ve only held 30... and I do not have only 30 anymore. Someone dropped off some eggs at my gate this morning with a note that said “I’m overrun by these guys. My kids are sick of eating eggs. TAKE THEM!” and they filled up some of the last spots in the bator. It’s running at a good humidity - 45-50% on the bottom rack, 40-45% on the top. The temp is concerning me since it won’t go above 97F. I’m planning on heading out tomorrow to get styrofoam. Car broke down today otherwise I’d be getting it today. Wish me luck!

NO NO NO NO NO NO. Do not buy his eggs. DO NOT. In addition to reading bad reviews (after the fact) on Good Egg, Bad Egg, I bought a dozen and got one baby out of them. That is highly unusual for me. Also, it was the first time I got a real stinker of an egg in the bunch. Wow. It was foul. The packaging was fine. The outcome was bad, and the customer service is nonexistent.

For Marans, there are better eBay sellers--foxfirepapillons, laurelmeadowsfarm, mashburn, greenfire, and another who has blue coppers is joshmooney0 and I have gotten good hatches from him.

Thanks for the good seller recommendations!

No problem. Foxfire is in Idaho and Cindy is really a good communicator. She is meticulous in her listings about which birds are in each pen and what to expect. I know a lot of people who have had great experiences with her eggs. I have been holding off only because of distance to GA in such cold.

21 eggs made it to lockdown. 9 hatched on day 21. 3 hatched today (day 22) and there’s a couple that have pipped (around 4 or 5). That leaves me with around 4 that I have yet to find out what’s going on with them. Will be candling tonight.

My husband said maybe we shouldn’t have set so many if this many were going to hatch. I actually wanna move a good handful to the outside brooder since my indoor box brooder is getting really full. Will another day be okay or should I move the ones that look strong and fluffed up already? Some are already eating.

I’m in Colorado so that distance isn’t terible. I’ll have to see if she has any active listings.

Here’s how packed it is and I foresee at least 4 more hatching by tonight
