Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

@CluckNDoodle I was thinking of you today looking at my grow outs...two of my WTBs are a CLB/WTB cross. Look how adorable the brown one is she got a beard muff and crest! She has blue in her tail, too.

Oh my goodness!! I love them! Were they all supposed to be True Blues? I haven't seen one with a crest yet! That's too cute!

When you say first pip do you mean first egg to pip? I think it’s my lone survivor so I imagine it’ll be the only pip. 😅 And since it’s still alive I imagine it’s getting oxygen.

Oooh, I didn't realize it was the only one. It's harder to gauge anything when you only have one to look at. 😬 I'm sorry, now I understand your stress. The membrane is a little yellow but I see this a lot with my Marans because they're slow pokes. I feel like it will hatch for you!

My friends WTBs were just growing out and she had some CLB pullets in with them. She didn’t think they were laying yet but was test hatching with a new incubator. I had marans I had just hatched and so I begged her for her first hatch. So it’s a WTB dad for sure. I got one pure WTB pullet, 3 WTB cockerels, and 2 WTB/CLB cross pullets.

I knew they would be blue layers either way. I ALWAYS get screwed with the blue eggs I’ve been trying forever. One of my opal Legbars lays green and the other..... lays white. :barnie

got home to one baby in the brooder who has definitely slipped a tendon. He/she is holding it's leg out sideways from it's body. They were all practicing flying so I think it must of landed wrong. It's one of the oldest ones so 3 weeks old today. Moved my older littles (greens and yellows) out to the outdoor brooder with a heat light to make room for the newer littles hatching now.

Up to 4 in the incubator out of the eggs 5 more still pipped. Waiting for them to hatch so I can move them to the brooder and check the other eggs.

Did a weigh in for the chicks in the brooder as I moved the older ones outside. They have just about doubled in weight since last weigh in.

Well it seems you will finally have your blue layer! I hope the CCL cross give you blue as well. She's too cute! Of the triplet WTBs that my broodies raised I gave my friend Snap & Crackle and I kept Pop (now Poppy) because she has the beard and muff and I'm a sucker for fluff, lol.

I'm sorry to hear about the little chick with the slipped tendon! Those are so hard to mend. :( I hope it's an easier fix than the one I tried to help!

What’s the purpose behind weighing them? I’m so sleepy today. Stayed up late last night with the eggs that didn’t make it. I did clean the incubator. I do want to sanitize it, will have to look into that soon.

Brooder and chicks will be going out in the shop today. They all seem to be getting along so no need to feel worried. I placed two lamps on one end since it will be in the 40s tonight and then 30s tomorrow night. But I’m sure as they get older I will be removing one of the lamps.

Cleaning the incubator with diluted bleach water, rinsing with clean water, and then drying works like a charm. Just be careful not to get any water on the electrical components.
