Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Lower humidity hatches work out better in most styrofoam incubators but I've heard of everything from no water, to a few drips of water, to not being able to get the humidity up on the Janoel 12 so I think it's going to depend on your incubator and location on that one.

I think you're on the right track with around 50, it's a good starting point since you don't know what to expect from your incubator yet. You will be able to tell if your hatch is too dry and can adjust it later if so. It's usually easier to help in a hatch that is too dry vs a hatch that is too wet.

Yes! The no-skid shelf liner is perfect for lockdown. It helps to prevent splay leg, giving the chick's little wobbly feet and legs something to hold on to and makes clean up easier.
Amazing I’m def going to get that!

I have a question, we want to participate in the Easter hatchalong, but will be gone for a long weekend. We thought about letting our daughter and grandson set the eggs and then us just bringing it back to our house Easter weekend because she will be out of town. The incubator would be turned off for about 20 minutes. What are your thoughts?

At first I didn’t want styrofoam because I felt like it was cheap and wouldn’t last long but now maybe I’m regretting it!
I didn’t weight mine so I’m not sure of exactly how much they lost. I will weigh next time around I definitely need a better tracking system because I was so confused I wrote dates on them and I was all over the place. I’m just going by the air cell size so hope that doesn’t bite me in the butt.

These are mine so I guess you can see kind of where the air cells are does that look good? If they need to get bigger maybe I’ll keep the humidity down?
That was their size a week before lockdown in the bottom photo

It's not because your incubator is plastic, it's just one of the tougher incubators to find a "sweet spot" for humidity with from what I've heard. I'm sure you'll figure it out quickly since you've been researching and monitoring closely! I've had a bunch of incubators, my favorites are still plastic models. The Nurture Right 360 and IncuView are both nice and I now have a Brinsea that when running it empty has held really consistently but I haven't hatched in it yet. If you go for styrofoam I usually recommend Hovabator, it's a heavier styrofoam body and lots of people love them.

What day are you on in incubation? The air cells look good for day 18 but the candling image you shared I'm not so sure about. Might just be hard to see in the picture.

Do you have a pic of your splash AM?? Those are my favorite, hoping to get one from my bluexblue pairing.

Hi! Yes, here is my Splash. We named her Luna yesterday. I prefer a bit darker splash markings, but I like her body type and personality a lot.

I've heard of other people doing this and they were successful. I believe there are actually adapters that you can plug the incubator into your car or you could get some of those hand warmer packs and just put a couple in the incubator. What stage in development will they be at when you're driving?

To me that image looks very iffy like the chick isn't growing or is no longer alive. At day 18 my chicks ever look like that.

That's what I'm concerned about too if her chicks are on day 18 like the air cells appear to be, the chick looks to be small and it really looks like there's a lot of fluid at the bottom like the chick quit at an earlier stage but sometimes it's hard to tell from and image...:fl

I have to check my eggs in a few days I didn't see much when I candled them. I'm not sure if Squatch is mating all the ladies.

I'm hoping I'm wrong about their eggs.
