Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Thank you for sharing this! Good to know that I was mistaken about the egg color.

I’m still working through all the details myself since I’m starting to breed Ameraucanas. I recently got 2 dozen eggs from a lady that has great bloodlines but I don’t think she has been focusing on egg color so some of them are almost more green than blue. I plan to only keep pullets from her line, so that I can inspect their egg color before deciding whether they get to stay in my breeding program or not. I’ll post some pics of the eggs in a bit.

This pic has better color accuracy. The Ameraucana eggs are in the top two rows. They are on day 19 right now and all 12 we're doing well yesterday!

I have my first external pip! I was in my kitchen when I heard chirping and was thinking it was my kids show because there's no way they'd be starting to hatch this early. Nope! This little one decided to get the ball rolling early. I even had my husband in there grinning about it hatching and shaking the egg with its little chirps. View attachment 2048300
That guy looks to be zipping!

Adore, my showgirl, decided to join the hatchalong. I didn't note when she started sitting. Maybe a week. She has really bedded down in the straw.

Most of my incubator eggs are day 18 so semi lock down. I have some who need a few more days.

Also, a better pic of piglets because they are cute. There's 5 but one was sleeping off to the side. They had run around for maybe a minute and then zonked out.

Here are the Ameraucana eggs I’m setting next. Some are a vivid, beautiful blue and some are greenish. It’s nearly impossible to capture the color.
