Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Also stopped getting notifications when I started reading other threads so maybe it only does the one or two that you look at the most.

I started going straight to "watched threads" now. That way I can see which ones I haven't been getting notifications on.

Oh boy I have a lot to catch up on! Past few days have been crazy busy. But alas... that means I haven’t been dying over how long hatching is taking!

I candled all of the duck eggs today (all 39 of them!) and we have 31 developing embryos! A few questionable ones, one dead one, and a handful of clears. Not sure if I should begin my version of misting (wiping them with a damp towel - I don’t have a mister) and cooling yet, as it’s only day 7.

There’s one that is completely strange. Everything is detached from the shell - air cell, embryo, everything. There’s a crack in it, too, that wasn’t in it when I put it into the bator. Some egg white leaked out. The embryo is developed though and the veins are still large and red. Sealed it with wax after I discovered it. Should I leave it? I’ve never seen anything like it. Maybe they were hairline cracks that you didn't see before putting it in the incubator and the motion of turning caused it to open more?
I have cracked an egg by accident when I put it back into the incubator too firmly before.
I do have a little wax baby in my incubator that so far is doing great! The crack was there when I got the egg and I decided to seal it with wax and incubate it anyway to see what happens. It's officially on lockdown and should hatch on Thursday! Fingers crossed yours pulls through as well!

That could very well be! It’s indented onwards though which is strange. It looks like it was pecked honestly. Who knows. All that I want is for the little baby to hatch!

Broody update: D10, she is down to 4 eggs because someone pecked one . But the 4 remaining eggs are still kickin!

I have 5 more days until I lockdown again and you're cute babies are giving me hatching pangs lol. Will be locking down 2 of my own eggs and 8 from the local eggs I got. She gave me 2 dozen and she only lives about 10 minutes from me but only 8 were fertile and are growing. She said she would give me another dozen next week since I won't get many babies from just eight eggs. So I'll be in for future hatch alongs lol.

I'll be in for future hatch alongs too. I have more free eggs coming soon. Plus I'll keep putting mine in

I hope she pulls through for you! So far the wax has worked really well for me and it wasn't a mild crack on mine either.

So, my wrong end pipper that hatched a few hours ago seems to be having a really hard time getting itself upright. It’s stuck on its back. It’s gotten upright a couple times but every time I come back to check it’s stuck again. It’s cheeping constantly. Has anyone had this happen?

I have one external pip ahhhh! This is so so exciting! I am thinking of setting an alarm for like 2 am tho because I’m afraid the humidity is going to dip again.

Is it standing, then flexing its neck backwards and then falling over? Or is it standing and the doing splits and falling over?
